You know, Apollo had high hopes for 2028. He and Klavier were actually kind of friends now, there were no impending disasters for once, and things were looking up. And then, literally on the first day of the new year... this happens.
Some cosmic force somewhere has got to be laughing at him. Some cosmic force somewhere definitely has it out for him, that's for sure. But the joke's on them, whoever they are, because his name is Apollo Justice, he's fine, and he is not losing anyone else... even if Klavier has already confessed to the murder Apollo can't believe he committed. And why does Mr. Wright keep muttering about this entire scenario being so familiar?

Phoenix harbours no illusions that getting his badge back is going to be an easy task, even if the hardest part of clearing his name is technically over. He's fully aware that his reinstatement is going to be a bit more complicated than just passing the bar and is going to be more of a case of:
Step 1: Save money to retake bar exam
Step 2: Study frantically to pass said bar exam
Step 3: Pass bar exam
Step 4: Hope and pray that he'll somehow be able to still pull in clients after his reputation got burned to the ground
Step 5: Haircut
Step 6: New suit
Step 7: Finally, finally confess his passionate love for Edgeworth that has been eating him up inside for the past 25 years
Step 8: ???? Lawyer???Thankfully he has a pretty solid support network of people willing to help him out. And if Edgeworth has anything to say about it, they'll probably be able to cut out a few of those steps along the way.
Which is why Phoenix promises himself one thing. If he passes the bar again, he is absolutely going to kiss the Chief Prosecutor square on the lips. Whatever happens after that, they'll just have to wait and see.

As Garak lay upon the bed, hands tied firmly to the headboard, his second thought was that this had been a very bad idea indeed. He ought to have stuck to unwanted novels, or perhaps chocolates; giving Dr Bashir the option to choose his own birthday gift had been a mis-step at best (and downright stupidity at worst). He could only assume that the certain softness he felt in his heart with regards to the good doctor had begun to spread to his head.
There was no other explanation.
Especially given that his first thought had not been, ‘How do I extricate myself from the situation?’ but simply, ‘Oh.’ Which his mouth had then echoed before he had been able to stop it.
Traitorous thing.

Their stay is packed with hilarious moments, enlightening experiences, and amazing discoveries. The electric atmosphere of Carnaval draws out feelings the men had hidden for many years, forcing them to be honest with themselves and one another.

"I should've been more careful," said Bashir. "Oh, well, it's not too bad. It's not as if this isn't something that happens all the time. We had a seminar on it first year of Academy. You've accidentally married someone in an alien ceremony, what next? It's not like we intend to stay here." Bashir flopped back on the bed, damp tunic and all, and looked up at him. "I feel less worried about getting back in time than I should. I don't know if I'm just too tired, or it's something about this place. Oh, well. Let's discuss it in the morning." He pulled his long bare legs up and shuffled around into a more comfortable position, facing away from Garak. "Go to sleep."
