“I did. I didn’t want to tell you because you seemed so skittish at the time,” Al-Haitham explains. “I knew the only way you could be an omega is either you were bitched or you had an alpha partner. I didn’t want to pry. That was your business, not mine, but I wasn’t going to treat you any differently because of your secondary gender.”
Kaveh takes it all in, his throat tight and dry. A part of him wants to cry and scream at Al-Haitham for allowing him to make a complete and utter fool out of himself when that damned scribe knew the truth the entire time. More tears burn behind his eyes, streaking down his flushed face as he turns away from Al-Haitham. “I’m going to bed,” he says, his voice barely above a whisper.
This time, Al-Haitham does not chase.
