It was my first job, and since I didn’t take anything else seriously, it was still my job. Being a 21-year-old barista wasn’t shameful or anything, but I always hoped for something bigger, like touring the world with the shitty garage band I built in high school. It was hard to keep those dreams alive when all my bandmates went off to college—bigger and better things.

I knew that voice anywhere. He had been a regular for as long as I’ve worked mornings. At least. “Steve. Good morning. We’ll see you at the window.”
The headset clicked off, and I tried to contain my little smile. The man was gorgeous and sweet. I couldn’t be the only one crushing on him in this damn store. But as I looked around, trying to meet someone’s eyes, no one was as excited as I was.

"What're you doing, man?" Eddie mumbles. He hates the waver in his voice. The way it catches is too much of a give away. He can't even hide that this is fucking him up in the worst, and best, way possible.
"You haven't thought about it?" Steve asks, his words soft, whispering against Eddie's hair as he pulls it away from his neck. Tilting Eddie's head how he wants it with his fingertips on his jaw, he asks just as softly, "Us?"
And Eddie, he-- He can't make his mouth move. He isn't even sure he's properly breathing. Keeps his eyes closed and lets Steve touch him however he wants. He's not going to stop him, wouldn't dream of it, but he can't find it in himself to encourage him, to say the words.
"I have," Steve says, kissing lightly against the side of Eddie's neck. "I've thought about it a lot."

How had I never noticed this man before? Eddie Munson. Also known as Eddie ‘The Freak’ Munson, ‘Long-Haired Freak’, or sometimes just ‘Freak’. He had a reputation for being a junkie, a punk, and a nerd. Now that I knew of his existence, his name was spoken around every corner. It was rare to hear a kind word, and those only came from other nerds and freaks. Where I used to be completely indifferent, I was now deeply fixated. Every whisper and rumor I heard about him was locked away in my mind. I had a feeling most of them were fake, but they still related to him, so I made a point to remember them.
My eyes followed him whenever we were near. I wasn’t the only one that looked at him, so he didn’t seem to think anything of it. Periodically, our eyes met, and each time I broke out in goosebumps. For weeks, I listened to every rumor and watched his every step. If he was in earshot, his deep, soothing voice was the only thing I heard, no matter who else was talking. It wasn’t long before thoughts of this punk followed me home.

Eddie hadn't planned on living. He wouldn't have thrown himself into the mouths the beasts if he'd thought he would have to suffer through the consequences. But he did and he does. Now, he's holed up in the (un)dead police chief's secluded cabin with none other than the former King of Hawkins as his handler. Maybe the bats were the easy part, it's Steve Harrington he has to survive.

Eddie’s not entirely sure how it got there, but he pulls it out and shakes it off, folding it and placing it on the counter, next to his binder of Hellfire notes (and song lyrics, and to-do lists, and cool concepts he needs to work on) so that he can’t forget it when he leaves tomorrow. It’s a beautiful coat, very obviously well-made and expensive, durable and sturdy, but also soft. Eddie’s also not entirely sure how Steve manages to keep losing/forgetting/leaving it at Eddie’s, but he does.
