Bobby silently curses John, wherever he is now, for starting this whole thing, the Winchesters passing a soul between them like an obligation. He’d cursed Dean too when he’d found out about it, but his anger hadn’t lasted long in the face of his sadness and regret. Sadness that he’d be losing Dean, and regret that he hadn’t worked harder to make sure the boy knew he wasn’t expendable the way he clearly thought he was.
“Dean, why don’t you come with me to check it out. Tired of being cooped up in here, and besides Rufus says there’s a real good breakfast joint out near there.”
“Sure Bobby, what’s 1500 miles for some eggs,” Dean jokes, but the smile doesn’t quite reach his eyes.
