He packs away his uniform. He donates the hoodies and shirts with holes for his wings, and he buys clothes without them needing to be altered.
He travels Japan to meet with heroes, politicians, and government employees, because a young agent of the HPSC being groomed for leadership needs to know the country and its people.
It is not a bad life, really.
He misses flying.
Hawks survives the war, and somehow, stumbles his way into a life with dogs.

A very short drabble, a warmup you could say, because the internet told me writing endhawks would help my writers block and it kind of did in the way that I very nearly threw up and had to cleanse myself with crackish, soft DabiHawks.

Realistically, Dabi should be mad.
Dabi should be mad because Hawks got hit with a quirk on patrol and didn’t tell him until it was too late; he didn’t text to cancel their meeting at Hawks’ place and didn’t even tell Dabi anything was up until he was playfully patting his shoulder, conveniently forgetting that the quirk was touch-activated.
After a sharp burst of light and a good minute of loud ringing in his ears, he came to, finding himself in Hawks’ body instead of his own. Hawks hadn’t even looked apologetic, either, just a little shocked while Dabi was trying to get a grip on what just happened and not freak out.
Hawks had looked taken aback but the expression was on Dabi’s own face and it was just- weird. And it could have been easily avoided.
So, all things considered, he should be mad. But he’s… not.
or: hawks and dabi swap bodies. dabi's forgotten what it feels like to be healthy.

Hawks follows Dabi’s line of sight. The mountains around them are cloaked in lush vegetation, save for one. The trees there look far thinner, and the ground seems somehow dead.
“What happened there?” he asks, pointing towards the outsider mountain.
“A fire,” Dabi says. Hawks waits for him to continue, but he doesn’t elaborate.
“Don’t tell me you set it last week or something,” Hawks replies, breaking the too-long silence. He wouldn’t put it past Dabi to just burn shit for fun, though he’s still not totally sure if Dabi’s an arsonist out of necessity or want.
Dabi lets out a strange laugh, a combination of a cough and a snort. “No, I didn’t set it last week.” He rolls his eyes. “It takes a lot longer for shit like that to grow back.”

Of course he remembers when they first met, three months ago at some wine night hosted by Dorcas, and Remus had been brought along as a potential set-up opportunity for Lily, and once James figured that out, Sirius had been delegated to running interference and making small talk with Remus for the duration of the night, at which point he discovered, rather unfortunately, that Remus was not only unbearably gorgeous and interesting and certainly Lily’s type, but also his own type, and Sirius made the mistake of giving Remus his number and saying they should hang out, and then Remus pocketed his phone, smiled, and said, “Great, I’m always looking to make more friends!”
