The first ring echoed in Shane’s ears like a sound that was too loud, too grating. Or maybe it was his heart in his throat that made everything so noisy.
He tried to grab the phone, but Hayden pulled it away, snickering.

Cliff turns to Hayden then. Cocking his head a little to the side, his eyes are searching Hayden’s face as if he was trying to read his mind. He opens his mouth to speak. He closes it. He shakes his head a little. And opens his mouth again,
“That’s so fucking weird dude. Roz’s ‘Jane’ is in Montreal. What are the odds those fuckers have girls in each other city’s. That would be next level rivalry, man."

“Oh fuck,” Hayden cursed, looking at the mess within the case. Most of the clothes weren’t folded nicely, just flung inside, and it looked like a mess. “What the hell?” Hayden reached in and picked up a floral shirt, frowning at it. It didn’t look like one of Shane’s. Shane was not a floral shirt kind of guy.
Unable to stop himself, Hayden started to pick up and fold some of the clothes within, absolutely certain by now that this wasn’t Shane’s case. He wasn’t sure if it belonged to someone else on the team or if there had been a mix up at the airport or what, but he knew Shane was going to be pissed when he found out. When the top layer of clothes were out of the way, everything suddenly became horrifyingly clear. Yellow text on black fabric that Hayden would know anywhere, that left little doubt in Hayden’s mind who this suitcase belonged to.
“Holy shit.”

"What?" Shane asks anxiously.
There's a drip. A spatter of something on Ilya's chest that draws Shane's eyes instantly.
It's a big red drop of blood.
Blood. Blood? He looks at it, then up at Ilya, who's still staring so concerned, sitting up a bit now.
"Hollander," he says again, more worried this time. "Your nose."

Ilya gave up on nonchalance and twisted his body around. Across the banquet hall stood a small group of Metros, at the front were Pike and Hollander with what could only be described as a gaggle of children at their feet. Likely the children of teammates and Pike, he was always popping them out, but that wasn’t what Marleau was referring to.
What drew Ilya’s eyes was not Hollander himself, but rather what he was holding.
