Bernard Dowd is a hopeful young GCPD officer who tracks Batman down as he rekindles his friendship with his childhood best friend Tim Drake.
This Tim Drake focused fic explores Tim's grief over Bruce's abrupt death, his taking over the cowl and facing off the resurgence of the Court of Owls while falling in love with Bernard Dowd. The fic is about Tim finding hope after the death of Bruce with the help of Bernard – their relationship is central to the story as a new Batman finds his ally within the GCPD, his own Gordon in a way.

“Do you think Robin comes here often?” Bernard asked as he hopped through the broken window.
Interesting perspective. “Why would he? Unless this is some secret bird cave.” Tim suggested as he followed the other boy through the window.
The blonde snorted. “If Robin has a birdcave, Batman totally has a batcave.”
“You think he puts bat- in front of everything.”
“Oh I know he does. Besides this is the type of place you’d bring someone to kiss in secret: abandoned like any other warehouse but cosy in a rustic, Narrows way.”
Tim faltered at that. He searched for something in Bernard's face but the other had his back to him, seemingly interested in the china cabinet with a distinct lack of china.
Sticking his composure back together, Tim replied with an amused lilt, “You think the Boy Wonder has a paramour?”
The other boy finally turned to him with a knowing smirk. “Well yeah, he’s attractive as hell.”

"Okay, so I'm just gonna—" Bernard awkwardly hopped up onto the couch and carefully climbed on top of Kon, placing one knee either side of the other's chest so he was leaning over him in a good position to do his makeup. "—hop on right here, that okay?"
Kon was frozen, his eyes staring up at Bernard blankly for a few moments as his brain malfunctioned. His cheeks flushed bright red, as they so often did around Bernard and Tim.
"I, uh. Um." He stuttered out, he blinked and then asked, "What?"
Bernard grinned, his lips tilting crookedly, "I asked if this was okay? It's easier to do your makeup like this."
"Oh." Kon muttered, his eyes flickered to where Steph was doing Duke's makeup perfectly fine by standing next to him. "Yeah. Yeah this is great. I mean—yeah, fine."
