Peter couldn’t remember the last time he could just… breathe.
Instead, he sits on the edge of an apartment building’s roof and rolls up the bottom of his mask, gulps in burning lungfuls of the unforgiving night air, and tugs his mask back on. Crime stops for no one, not even Spiderman.
Or: May dies, and Peter devolves into homelessness and isolation. Past demons reappear, old wars are waged, and it feels like Peter has no one to turn to, not even Mr. Stark. Like always, Peter’s life gets better before it gets worse, and it gets worse before it gets better.

Peter sighs and swings himself up into the air, vowing to come back and do a patrol of the area later, just in case the man really could use his help. The alley falls back into silence and shadows in his wake.

Summary
Something big and red launches through the open doorway and slams into the guy full-on, smashing both of them to the ground. There’s a momentary tussle, and then the Red Thing punches the guy, hard, upside the jaw.
He goes limp. Out like a baby.
Red gets up and dusts himself off as if there’s some sort of physical remnant of the guy stuck to his suit. Now that he’s finally standing still, Peter can see him fully in the fluorescent lights.
Recognition hits him like a truck. Adrenaline pumps into his veins: pure, undiluted energy. Peter straightens, grins.
“Daredevil,” he says, with conscious attempt to keep the marvel out of his voice.
___________A month after the events of No Way Home, Peter is struggling to adjust. Along comes the Devil of Hell's Kitchen to give him some advice and promptly pass out cold in his living room.

Peter doesn't have a lot of options.
He's been beaten bloody and he has no home, no family, and nowhere to start again.
The man's staring at him, and Peter knows that a good part of his face can be seen. He should be worried that everything was for nothing, that his identity will be revealed once again, but he isn't.
He doesn't have the power to feel worried anymore, he can only feel hopeless and wonders how much lower he can fall from there.

This a short story that takes place after the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home. Because of this, the description for the story is written in the notes of the first chapter. Peter Parker needs a hug after all that happened in the last movie, and this story was pretty much just that: me trying to cheer up Peter Parker as a writer. I didn't want him to be so sad and alone. This is the story of an unwitting boy being (figuratively) adopted into a family for the holidays. I'll leave it at that, and see you inside if you decide to read.
