A lot of things unfold differently than in canon.
In this version, Neil is THE best striker, and Riko hates him for it.
Side notes: In my story, Riko is not the main villain. He is a minor wannabe antagonist, a cheap imitation of the kind Nathaniel grew up and live with. (But still gruel)

Also, Andrew is not medicated and the relationship with Aaron is better than in canon.

Unlike dating, sex seems doable. It’s a form of connection, like what Dan and Matt are always going on about, but without the awkward small talk and deeply personal questions that border on invasive. To Neil, it seems even more basic than that: using your body to make someone else’s body feel good. He could do that.
He happens to have a body. One that functions mostly normally.
It’ll probably be fine.

It burned, different to how his shoulder did when Father pressed the iron to it years ago. His shoulder had burnt with a searing heat that he could not escape; bright and all encompassing. Afterwards it felt like pulsing coals against his skin; a never-ending throb of burning pain that pulled and demanded his attention. Nathaniel had grown used to pain over the years. He was able to keep quiet when his father or one of his friends put their blades to his skin. Nathaniel had gotten used to preparing himself for pain, especially whenever he saw his father or Lola in particular.
Maybe that was why the pain felt so much worse this time.

Nathaniel Wesninski and his mother had managed to avoid his father for six years before the past finally caught up to them in bumfuck nowhere of West Virginia of all places. Apparently, his father had connections there that neither he nor his mother had known about and one of them had recognized Nathaniel in a gas station and reported it back to Nathan. It had taken less than twenty four hours from that moment for the both of them to end up back in that fucking basement in Baltimore, Maryland. Less than forty eight for his mother to be dead and Nathaniel to wish he were too.
Now, two months later, just after his seventeenth birthday, after many, many lies to the police and after his father had spent the appropriate amount of time playing the grieving widower, Nathaniel found himself standing outside of Palmetto High School in South Carolina.
