Summary
The laugh that bubbled out of Jason was another shock that zapped through his heart–god, how long had it been since James made him laugh? Too long. Way too fucking long. He was smiling so big, crazed with confusion and joy, wild emotions flooding his heart and head.
He was trying to choose one of the hundred different things he wanted to say, but James spoke first: “You forgot about me, Jase.”
God, the nickname–Jason now remembered how much he loved it, how James called him it more than anyone else, how he always said it with such affection. Except now, because James’ tone was daunting and accusatory, and Jason’s heart went tight in the constricting tornado of his ribs, the beat so hard it felt like he might explode.
“No. No, James, I never forgot about you.” Jason had to sit down, his knee going wild with his foot tapping the floor. “But hearing your voice again–shit. It makes me realize that I only forgot how much I missed you.”

Early 80s. Dave is still a solid member of the young metal band Metallica, and he is vehemently trying to drink his way through it. While touring, every night looks the same: drinking lots of beer and whatnot, soundcheck, concert, and even more drinks post-performance. Dave feels that he cannot ever be sober, let alone think straight, and when James dresses up for their upcoming concert, something about the way the clothing looks on Janes makes Dave snap, causing him to not only internally freak out. A tantrum follows, and both guitarists part on bad terms. But the way James had looked so...peculiarly interesting set something off in Dave's silly drunken mind...
