Himeko is already at the table, a data pad balanced in one hand, the other absently stirring a cup that’s gone cold. Welt sits opposite her, eyes hidden behind glasses that reflect the passing light from the windows. March is trying too hard to sound cheerful. Pom-Pom scolds her for gesturing too wildly near the food tray. Trash Cake — their resident critter from Herta’s Space Station that Pom-Pom begrudgingly allowed to stay aboard — was pawing at the ribbons on March’s boots, completely enamoured by them.
It’s almost normal.
It’s not the same.Life aboard the Astral Express goes on — reports, repairs, the same hum of the engines that once carried their laughter. Dan Heng tells himself he’s fine. That peace means healing. That silence isn’t the same as loss.
He'd give everything to hear her voice just one last time.

The curl of her fingers in his hair, the feel of her skin beneath his hands, the beat of her heart against his chest, the all-encompassing feeling of being on cloud nine when she looks at him with those eyes of hers. Dan Heng wonders what it would be like to wake up with her next to him, an arm thrown over her waist, her face tucked against his shoulder.
He thinks he loves her. Loves her in a way he has never loved anyone else. Loves her in a way that is all-consuming. Loves her in a way that is infinite.

Very emotional, and I love it. The soulmate concept is explored really well, considering the fic is relatively short, and the interactions between the leads are adorable. The theme seems to be "choosing each other", which is in itself a small deconstruction, given the fact it's a soulmate story. Nicely done!

Its time was frozen—perhaps broken. However, that wasn’t what caught her attention.
There was a photograph within it, a person eerily similar to her. Same hair length. Same facial features. Same smile.
There were engravings on the back of the artifact, dating back to five hundred years ago.
