So everything was okay. Eddie was going to Texas. No, he was going to his son. Christopher was the only thing on his mind. His son was the only thing on his mind.
That was what made it all the more confusing when Buck drove Eddie to the airport and when he hugged Eddie goodbye, standing outside the doors of terminal 4 at LAX, Eddie could not imagine why his first thought was please don’t say it.
Eddie wasn’t even entirely sure what he didn’t want Buck to say, but he knew, deep down to his core, that he did not want Buck to say it. There wasn’t something that Buck could say that would have Eddie falling to his knees outside of terminal 4, and Eddie really didn’t have time for that right now.

Eddie goes to El Paso. Buck stays behind. Neither of them say what they should.

He could pick things up and set them down without a sound. He constantly walked on the balls of his feet. He even kept his breathing even, slow and low, whenever he wasn’t alone.
Buck was invisible to absolutely everyone.

Summary
The AU where Bobby adopted Evan when he was six years old, and then twenty years later Eddie joins the 118 and starts dating Buck... and no one initially realises that Evan and Buck are, in fact, the same person. Part 1 is the story of the identity shenanigans and the reveal.
Part 3 is a collection of missing scenes from the original story, while Parts 4 ('how it could have gone') and 5 ('another way it could have gone') are outtakes and depict two different scenarios where the reveal of Buck and Evan being the same person go a different way.
Part 2 'oh captain my captain' is a prequel and shows the 118 meeting Bobby and then later on Evan.
Part 6 'these are the days we've been waiting for' is the story of Buck's first day at the 118.
Part 7 'may you live in interesting times' is a sequel to that takes place about a year or so later, and Part 8 'I once was lost (but now I'm found)' directly follows on and is a full-length sequel and prequel to the main story.
This series as it is now is standalone and can be considered complete. The only reason I haven't marked it as such is because I do expect to be adding additional installments at some point in the future. Happy reading!

Summary
Since Shannon died, Eddie Diaz's family has been trying to set him up. They just want him to find the "right person" they tell him. Unbeknownst to them, however, Eddie already has met the right person. He knows who he wants to spend the rest of his life with, to raise Christopher with.
Eddie lives an open life out in LA with his team and his friends, but not with his conventional family back in Texas. When Eddie decides he wants to remarry, however, the small world the Diaz family inhabits is suddenly blown apart. Dynamics shift, conversations become more and more difficult, and change is inevitable. Eddie hopes to come out of it all stronger than before, and he knows that nothing will stop him from marrying the love of his life.

He’d learnt languages that no longer exist, fascinated by the development of language and how none had yet come up with a word that could truly represent the agony that had carved its way into his bones – although he suspects that, at some point, someone might get close.
He'd spent years just watching the world, the world that fought and fought and fought in an endless bloodshed. Always over meaningless things, where the true trigger would be forgotten and only pain and death and body count would be remembered accurately. He’d watched the years after, as beauty grew from the blood that had fallen. There is an art in sorrow.
He knew the beauty that grew from blood far too intimately.
