Gi-hun's mouth clicked shut.
Detective Hwang In-ho was stuck, this case isn't moving forward and bodies are piling up. One body–every three months.
And the department's name for the killer–Deadly Sinner–makes him wanna slam his head against the wall or laugh till he cries.
And then there's Seong Gi-hun, the mechanic he met once because his tire got punctured, who won't leave him alone. Somehow he finds himself meeting Gi-hun everywhere. And the worst part, he can't stop himself from interacting with him.
So when the next body is found in Gi-hun's shop instead of the usual parking lots, he becomes even more tangled with the man.
He can't help the pull. And maybe, maybe Gi-hun isn't as kind-hearted as he seems.

Summary
Hwang In-ho lets out a shout as the bullet slices through his skin. His left shoulder burns as his right reaches up to clutch it. His knees cracking with a loud thump as he falls to the ground. Hunched over as his breath roars out of him in pants. Every sound around him is muffled as his head throbs from the impact. Heart racing as red-hot pain seers through him. He’s been hurt before, surviving Squid Game requires ounces of blood sacrifice, including your own. But even the years of heart-numbing that comes from being the Frontman couldn't make him immune to the pain of being shot, even if it is just a slice through the muscle from a stray bullet.
I do not own this story nor any of the characters, all credits go to Squid Game.

Time stood still, and his body tensed in anticipation. In-ho didn't know what he feared more: hearing a familiar voice or being met with nothing but a hollow, devastating silence. He barely restrained himself from turning around. But In-ho no longer trusted his own eyes. He was going insane.
"What are you doing in this box room when you should be with Jun-hee's child in surgery," an accusation came immediately.

Gi-hun shook his hand. His handshake was firm, almost painful—not because the teacher intended it, but because of the surprise.
“Good evening.” He glanced at the door, hoping that his daughter might eventually show up but of course she didn’t. Gi-hun sighed in defeat, realizing he had to face the teacher alone. “I’m Seong Gi-hun.”
Hwang In-ho pressed his lips together and blinked slightly. “Ah.” He sat down and Gi-hun followed him. “Seong Ga-yeong’s father, I presume.” He said with a cold tone.
Gi-hun felt the chill settle in as he introduced himself as Ga-yeong’s father. Trying to break the ice, he forced a laugh. “Yup, that’s me, in the flesh!”

In-ho’s fingers tightened around his pianist’s first-place award, his face warming slightly at ‘my piano prodigy’. “Sorry, I guess.”
“Don’t disappear, Hwang.” Gi-hun smiled—while a tear fell down his cheek—and got closer to him. “I’ll be always waiting for you, you’re the only one worthy competing to.”

LOTS of hurt/comfort, angst but a proportionate amount of fluff.

And if that existed, if it was possible to sustain that even in spite of immense hardship, maybe it wasn't circumstance that had turned In-ho into something bitter. If Gi-hun was possible, if his worldview was somehow sustainable, that meant that whatever In-ho became was not a result of a bad situation; it was inherent. He was always empty, or capable of emptiness, and wasn't that the same thing?"

After the events of season 2, In-ho sends Gi-hun away with a key and a card with the address to his apartment. He assumes that, in a few months, Gi-hun will come and confront him or shoot him. Instead, the moment that In-ho returns from the games, Gi-hun is waiting for him.
Despite Gi-hun's assurance that there is nothing but hatred between them, they are both still eager to find a kindred spirit. The reconciliation of these two warring emotions leads them to some confusing places.

Hwang In-ho encounters Seong Gi-hun more than once, and each time, Gi-hun wedges himself deeper inside his mind. In-ho has been devoid of personhood for years, since his wife's death, but hope is a powerful thing. So, too, is love.
