A song drifts from the Licorice Sea on nights like these, when there’s not a blizzard howling outside the walls and my warriors find themselves battling the biting cold of winter. It’s unwise to listen, or venture too close to the wall when that wretchedly melodic voice carries on the frigid wind, carrying sea spray that becomes hoarfrost in the grooves and cracks of the wall. It’ll melt for maybe an hour tomorrow, if we’re lucky, or else grow into a proper patch of ice.
