Amor. Em espanhol, o qual ele sabia muito pouco, te quiero era usado com mais frequência do que te amo. Em francês, Je t’aime. Simples e direto. Se colocasse alguma coisa depois, como Je t’aime bien, já não era a mesma coisa. Ich liebe dich, em alemão, não é dito para qualquer pessoa sem causar uma situação constrangedora, mas havia o ich lieb dich. Era apenas uma palavra, mas o contexto, a intensidade, ou até mesmo uma letra a menos a mudava completamente. Porque não era a palavra que transformava o sentimento, era ele que a esticava e a moldava enquanto ela falhava em capturá-lo.
Ainda assim, sem a palavra, Neil talvez nunca tivesse percebido que o sentimento esteve ali, ao seu alcance, o tempo todo. Da mesma forma como não percebia que seus passos o guiavam para o terraço no modo automático, quer fosse uma decisão consciente ou não.Bookmarked by Arsouldef

Summary
Neil breath hitch. “You like that,” he said, not quite a question. “‘Drew, you like it when I-”
“Fuck, Andrew.” Neil sighed, his mind reeling. He was pretty good at finding Andrew’s tells, at figuring out what he liked, but he must have missed this.
“You can shut up.” Andrew said, eyebrows furrowing in what could be embarrassment or defiance or both.
“I don’t think you want me to.” Neil replied, feeling giddy as he rubbed at Andrew's neck, feeling his rapid pulse beneath his fingers.
“Shut the fuck up.” Andrew said, but his voice was raspy; he sounded nearly breathless, but the words lacked any real bite.
"But you like it," Neil says, carding his hand through Andrew's hair with gentle strokes. "I like that you like it.”
Or: Neil can't stop thinking about Andrew's mouth; they share a cigarette, and Neil discovers that Andrew Minyard enjoys being called "baby" and being praised.

Andrew Joseph Minyard didn't do regrets. But letting Neil in, allowing himself to want, for letting Neil slip through his fingertips- it was the closest he would get to feeling regret. It had been fourteen years since he last saw Neil, since Neil was taken right from under his grasp by his psycho-killer father and lost forever and Andrew had to make peace with that, had to stop expecting Neil to walk through his front door like he had never left. Except, one day, it all but happened. One day, a small kid with horribly cut short platinum blonde hair, striking blue eyes that plagued Andrew's dreams and nightmares, freckles and an achingly familiar horrible fashion sense showed up at his office door with the strangest question. "Are you Andrew Joseph Minyard, yes or no?" The kid asked in a British accent. Andrew could only nod. "Oh good." The kid said, suddenly unsure of themself. "Cause I think you're my dad." What the fuck?

Summary
He would never force Andrew through something he didn't want, but he needed to admit, at least to himself, that him deciding that he didn't want to accompany Neil through his decision would break him a little bit inside, taking with him a piece of him that could never be filled again.
But he won't let himself be like them, and so, he wants him to choose for himself.
Or, where Neil is pregnant and he needs to tell Andrew.

"Can I try?"
It's a surprising question, though Andrew doesn't let the emotion show on his face, and he sits up from his position on the bed to get a better look at Neil. When he'd first lit up, Neil had been nervous, unfamiliar with the drug and its effects, so he didn't bother offering any to him. He knew firsthand that Neil didn't like feeling out of control, and the fact that he's drinking around the Foxes now is enough of a show of trust that Andrew didn't want to push it.
That doesn't mean Andrew isn't interested in seeing Neil high, though.
Neil smokes for the first time, but not before giving Andrew his "yes."

Predictably, Neil’s automated voicemail message answers for him. The number you’re trying to reach is unavailable at this time. The message runs through its spiel, informing Andrew that he can leave a message after the beep.
Goodbye hovers on his tongue. It’s the least that Neil deserves from him. There are so many more things to be said.
Andrew shuts his phone without leaving a voicemail. He drops his phone onto the counter and slips a knife out of its sheath.
Right before spring break during his fourth year at Palmetto, Andrew Minyard attempts suicide. Now everyone has to figure out how to move forward from here.
