It starts, as so many things involving them do, with a taunt, a challenge, and an inescapable, stubborn, childish need to win.
“You wouldn't know a good kiss if it bit you, shit-cook.”
Sanji laughs at that ludicrous statement. “A good kiss wouldn't bite, moron. You're delusional if you think you know more about good kissing than me. Know more about anything, really, I mean, come on.”
Sanji's about to turn away and melt into the crowd, forgetting this interaction entirely, when the shitty swordsman says something he simply cannot ignore.
“Bet?”Sanji and Zoro hook up once, but it's just to prove a point. The second time is to even the score. The third time, well...and the fourth...and fifth...and maybe Sanji has a problem.

They had bickered and fought on their way to the market, but there had been an undercurrent of heat in their interactions. When they got up into each other's faces, it was more lingering, as their shoulders brushed and hands clutched at collars. Eyes strayed to mouths and hands wandered to necks. So, Zoro had taken initiative and pulled the prickly cook into an alcove to let that heat out.

Sanji’s laugh twinkles like distant stars as he dances back, out of reach. “Mm, I don’t think so. You were the one who needed to be unwound a bit, weren’t you?”
“You’re not serious.”
Sanji laughs again, already turning away. “G’night, mosshead, no need to tell me how much you enjoyed it.”
“Waiter, what the fuck—”
He leaves Zoro standing in the crisp air as the sun barely peaks the tips of its fingers over the horizon.
Before Zoro kisses him, he’s going to kill Sanji first.
Fooling around with the waiter would be great, actually, if Sanji wasn't the most infuriating person alive.

Summary
The problem was, Sanji had been extra annoying lately. It wasn’t just the moaning and sighing about women thing, although that had definitely been turned up a notch. Even Luffy had complained about it the other day. Zoro, as always, weathered Sanji’s interminable commentary with a grit jaw, but then there was the shoving to contend with, the bitching, the unwarranted kicks aimed at Zoro’s head for no reason. Zoro didn’t know if he’d done something to incite the abuse, or if Sanji was just blowing off steam and Zoro was the most convenient target. Either way, it was… yeah, extra annoying.

"The curse is related to how I insulted her. The cure is to do with… kissing,” Sanji reveals, trying to sound casual about it. “See? Why worry about something silly like that?”
“That’s it? That’s easy,” Zoro says.
Grabbing him by the arms, Zoro pulls the cook up against him, his rag doll body coming readily, his weight easy to bear. Kissing Sanji feels like nothing, just a hard smash of lips with no passion or pretense.
Strong hands push him away with enough force to send him stumbling back. Standing by the sink, Sanji points an accusing finger at him, wiping his lips with a sleeve. “The fuck is the matter with you?!”
Zoro can’t help but lick his own lips. “What? Did it not work?”
“No, it didn’t work. Fuck!” Sanji shakes his arms as if trying to rid himself of some energy overflow. “I said it’s to do with kissing, not actual kissing.”
“Oh… my bad.”
“‘My bad’- I’m going to kill you!”
Zoro smirks. “Well, at least you’re up, huh?”

“Zoro,” Sanji called out, his voice dry and croaking. Zoro had been standing some ways off on the beach with arms folded, and had started half-jogging once Usopp started yelling, likely assuming it to be his usual exaggeration, but after hearing Sanji’s voice he was bounding across the beach, kicking sand behind him in great bursts. ... Sanji’s head lolled on his shoulders enough to catch the closest expression Zoro had ever made to fear. Ooh, he must really look like a wreck. This was the right choice.
Usopp and Brook were speaking over each other in hysterics and Zoro was reaching out to help shoulder some of Sanji’s dead weight - Sanji took a deep, shaky breath and summoned the last of his strength to drag his arm from around Brook’s shoulder and throw it around Zoro’s instead, collapsing against his chest. All four men fell silent.
“Zoro- please-” Sanji rasped, and he saw Zoro’s good eye widen, his lips barely parted- “I need you, Zoro.”
And he gripped both sides of his head to drag him into the sloppiest kiss of his life before promptly blacking out.- Language:

After a battle with the Navy, the Straw Hats find themselves on an uninhabited island in search of treasure. Unsurprisingly, things go awry. Zoro and Sanji end up separated from the rest of the crew, and find they have... some things to work out.

"With a wordless cry of rage, Sanji leaps into the air and kicks out with both feet at once, taking Zoro off guard enough that Sanji lands on his chest and they both go to the ground. Their momentum sends them tumbling a good distance away and down a rocky embankment. Zoro can barely protect his head as they go flying, let alone stop himself from rolling directly into a shallow, dirty creek at the bottom of the slope.
He takes solace in the fact that Sanji’s fall is stopped by a rather large tree."

It's all too common a scene - Sanji can only admit he wants Zoro when he's drunk, Zoro has to grapple with knowing he and Sanji could be so happy if only Sanji could bring himself to be honest when they're both sober, and in the morning he has to deal with things going back just the way they were without hope of any resolution between them, sexual or otherwise.
Except this time it's the morning-after and Sanji is dropping heavy hints he remembers EXACTLY what happened between them during their last drunken rendezvous-
Except EXCEPT they didn't actually manage to DO anything, so what the hell is it that Sanji remembers?Aka. "it's sexy when Sanji has to - or chooses to - vocalise what he wants before he can get it", the fic. What was originally PWP that ran away from me and now covers Sanji's load-bearing heterosexuality (self-inflicted), character introspection for he and Zoro both, and a burgeoning romance. Complete but may be expanded on.
