The roof was colder than he expected. Wind tugged at his sleeves, at the old notebook half-torn in his hand.
“Quirkless can’t be a hero.”
“Then maybe I shouldn’t be one,” he whispered.Below, the city hummed - indifferent, alive. Bakugou‘s words echoed somewhere behind his eyes.
“Make a swan dive, Deku. Maybe next time you’ll get lucky.”
Izuku looked down at the distance between sky and street, between who he was and what they said he’d never be.
He didn’t jump off the roof.

Summary

Shouta was too far to shout it, and too far to reach Midoriya, get his attention.
Too far to stop the boy from bolting out into the street, towards the car, towards the child, lightning and a smile mixing into a swirling blur.
Towards the danger.
"Don't!"
'Don't let it break, Shou!' Oboro's voice echoed in his ear as he sprinted down the hill towards Izuku, too slow to make a difference and stop the inevitable as tires screeched and horns blared.
"Don't."
