Summary
Eddie doesn't think before he acts, which is nothing new - as is throwing himself recklessly in harm's way. He usually doesn't do it for someone else, though, so he ends up not just surprising himself, but also Spiderman (whom he just roughly shouldered out of the way), *and* the guy who was trying to stab Spiderman in the gut and instead stuck his knife into Eddie. Or, from his perspective, into the costumed mercenary slash occasional vigilante known as Deadpool.
Eddie looks down at the knife, and back up at the man, who seems very surprised that Eddie is still standing.
"Jesus H. Christ, that could hurt someone," Eddie says, and shoots him point blank in the head.

Steve jerks awake, sitting up so quickly that Robin almost topples over and staring wildly around the room. When his gaze lands on Eddie, he blanches visibly.
“Oh, shit,” he mutters. “Come on, no. Come on. Not again.”
“Harrington?” Eddie asks slowly. He does not love the way that Steve is staring at him right now. He really doesn’t. Steve looks like he’s staring at a ghost, a bloodied monster, like Eddie is something that should not exist in the light of day. “You good, dude?”

Sometimes Steve gets these crazy dreams. He wakes up from them shivering, hand reaching for something under his bed that doesn’t exist. The plots of them mostly fade after a minute, so he’s left with unsettling images that haunt him whenever he closes his eyes: vines, pulsing like a muscle; caustic spores stuck in the back of his throat; a creature’s mouth unfolding like a toothy flower.

“I came over here,” Steve starts, and he gives his arm a shake when the sleeve gets caught around his elbow. Once it’s off, he bunches his fist into the fabric of the collar. “To give you this,” he finishes and holds out the coat.
Eddie blinks down at it. Then he looks back up at Steve. “What?”

Eddie and Steve have been spending a lot of time together since Vecna. They're co-parenting kids, getting high every night, and sleeping in the same bed. They basically share a wardrobe too.
He thinks this is dangerous, its like they’re married, the casual sharing of intimacy, this space between them which feels like something and nothing all at the same time. He thinks it’s dangerous for him to pretend Steve sees it the same way, that one day Steve’s droopy, kind eyes are going to see right through him and he’ll lose this. This being a side of Steve’s bed that is his, a nightstand where his rings always pile, a drawer of shirts in Steve’s bedroom that only Eddie uses. He can’t lose it, so he shuts his mouth, turns out the light, and watches the slow breathing of sleep fill Steve’s chest.
