She’ll stroke the edge of his cheek softly when she thinks he’s asleep, and when he attends a dinner held by Jesper and Wylan, she’ll place a tentative but ultimately anchoring hand on his knee underneath the table. But she won’t do anything more, and for that, he’s grateful. Because no matter how much he wants her to press herself against him, how much he longs to hold her—he can’t bring himself to. And she won’t push him. Inej won’t wait for him, he knows, but she still stays even when he steels himself under her touch.

It doesn't remind him of Jordie at all. Not even a little. Not at all.

Wylan is half asleep when he feels the first touch, a gentle pressure on the curve of his shoulder, a light scratch that swoops down over his flesh. He's used to the feeling by now, used to Jesper dragging the ink across his skin, covering him in nonsensical words - the darker boy's fingers brushing over him, smearing the ink in patches, his lips hovering in a breath of a kiss that never quite connects no matter how badly he wants it to. He closes his eyes and tries to breathe, he bites his tongue and tries to keep as still as he can, because sometimes saying nothing at all is better than all the words that could get tangled between them.

“Kaz has an ex?” Jesper asked, sidetracked by this very new information. He turned to Kaz. “You have an ex?” he asked incredulously. Kaz looked between them all - expression unreadable.
“No.”
What was happening? Inej and Wylan both turned to stare at Kaz as if he was lying. Which, well, maybe. Also, Jesper was a little offended.
“Why do they know you have an ex and I didn’t?” he asked, a little petulantly. Kaz kicked him under the table.
“I don’t.”
“Inej?” Jesper asked. She scoffed.
“We’re talking about you, Jesper. Well, you and Kaz,” she said with a wave of her hand. “I don’t think it’s strange you two still spend time together. Though, to Wylan’s point, I can see why it’s a little strange for him given you don’t do this with anyone else you’ve dated as far as I know-”
Or
Inej and Wylan might have maybe, sort of, kind of thought their boyfriends were exes, and debate if it’s weird that they still hang out. Jesper and Kaz are understandably confused.
