They knew the color of his eyes, the red coat he wore, how he walked through the streets of the biggest city in the country, with his head held high, a swagger in his step too confident for any normal 13 year old. They knew his brother, Alphonse, silver and massive, towering over his big brother, face steel and unmoving.
They knew, Ed didn’t think they had any right to know, but they did nonetheless,
Ed knew they knew, that they stared, that they judged and whispered, he knew that they sneered and remarked.Ed knew cruelty from a young age, he knew man was naturally cruel, he knew that he was constantly in the spotlight, that he was always watched and admired and hated and judged. To Ed, who had learnt so well to ignore this, it was normal, it was just a fact of life, and Ed didn’t have the right to question a fact of life.
That hadn’t gone well for him last time, at least.
