Summary
The thing is, despite what others may think and believe and assume, Tony is unhappy.
He has a lovely husband, yes, who spends all of his waking hours at the office instead of at home with his family. He has two children who look at him like he can fix everything in their world, yet they feel Steve's absence more and more each day, and Tony doesn't know how to fix that. And then, Tony meets Natasha Romanoff, one of Steve's colleagues, and he starts to realise exactly why his husband prefers not to come home anymore.
Despite this, Tony loves Steve, loves him enough that he's willing to ignore any indiscretions, if it means that his family will stay together and whole.
But when Tony's first love, James, also known as the most terrifyingly competent mass murderer in the world, the Winter Soldier, shows up after almost a decade, asking for his help to fight a terrorist organisation that Tony knows all too well, suddenly, keeping his family together and whole isn't as easy as he thought it would be, when it was just him who had to suffer.
Now, he's torn between the man that left but came back to him and the man who loves him but maybe not enough.

It was mostly embarrassing, really, to be snatched off the streets by Hydra’s unwanted leftovers and tossed into a dark, cold cell without so much as a by-your-leave. Tony thought the worst of it would be the mind-numbing boredom while he waited for days for his chance to escape, or the stale, gray mush these goons dared call “food”…
…or the guards tossing an unconscious, beaten body right into Tony’s own cell two days later and Tony realizing it belonged to the very same Winter Soldier Tony hadn't seen since their fight in Siberia.

Steve Rogers is fresh outta the closet and not looking for anything even remotely resembling a relationship, so the infamous king of one-night stands sounds like a great conquest.

There’s… fuck sakes there’s so much he doesn’t even know where to start on explanations and if he’s going to do this his omega needs explanations. Like a lot of them. Not that he wanted an omega to begin with and this is absurd, just fucking bat shit crazy that this is a real sentence offered up by actual court of officials who genuinely think this is a proper solution to this case.

There was a tapping noise coming from their right and both looked back up to the barista. Bucky’s smile faltered. The man was shorter than him, although not as short as Steve. He had the sweetest of smiles on his perfect lips and happy wrinkles in the corners of his perfect hazelnut eyes. His hair, which looked perfect to comb with his fingers was a dark brown, almost black, depending on the lightning. Bucky gulped dryly.
He was wearing an orange polo shirt, which was probably the store’s uniform, underneath a black apron. The color worked wonders with his brown-ish skin. He held up a notepad to their faces.
‘Welcome to Star Cakes. My name is Tony, I’m mute. I’ll be communicating with you through the notepad. How may I help you?’ was written down, in an exemplary cursive.

Bucky was one of the best violinists in the country -- perhaps in the world -- until the accident that took his arm six months ago. All he wants now is to settle into his new apartment and try to recover even a fraction of his ability with the new prosthetic that he hates almost as much as he appreciates.
Tony moved out of his parents' home to get away from their memories and so he wouldn't have to endure quite so many of Obie's bracing pep talks.
