Summary
Set after season 4 ending before season 5 begins aka the 18-month gap (the Byers are living with the Wheelers).
El's and Mike's relationship took a huge toll after what happened with Max hence the breakup. Feeling guilty, Mike goes down a destructive path and unexpectedly Andy-Jason's friend-takes an interest in him. Will just wants to make sure Mike is safe and his feelings stay hidden, but how long can he when he finds himself glued to Mike's hip once Holly is deemed to be in sudden danger. Dustin is drifting away, unable to cope with Eddies death, and Lucas is trying his best to keep the party together despite his own problems.
Byler and Jancy parallels from season 1 and season 2 as well as the party being there for each other.

Summary
He barely managed to lay eyes on her before hands clamped down onto his arms and shoulders, and chaos erupted around them once again. Guns flew up as fists were thrown, and distantly, Mike heard his name among cries and other yelling, but when he lunged toward his friends, the hands on him tightened, preventing him from running to them.
It took him another second to realize they weren't just holding him back. They were pulling him away.
Post El's "death," Mike and the rest of the party are detained by Dr. Kay and the military. When Mike is separated from them, he is forced to deal with an off-the-rails Dr. Kay and an angry Sergeant holding a grudge.

Silence. Hungry, carnivorous—or maybe cavernous, vast and lined with teeth, ready to bite. The quiet before the storm, the gasped breath in before the heart stops. Tragedy tastes bitter. Blood tastes like pennies. Both are in the air, promises coating the tongue. Something bad is about to happen.
From beneath the bed, something reaches out—a mass of darkness, a shapeless nothing—and it grabs Mike by the wrist, yanks him forward. Mike chokes on a yelp and flails his arm free, blood dripping from where the shadows grabbed him, like the touch of darkness has split him open. He tries to scramble away, unfolds his legs to kick himself back but only makes himself easier, more vulnerable. The unidentifiable mass encircles Mike's ankle, and he screams something agonized, terrified—and then it pulls Mike, clawing at the carpet with his bloodied fingers, under the bed.
This time, the silence isn't hungry. It's satisfied.
will starts entering the mindscape in his dreams on the same night that mike gets taken by vecna. this is probably the least confusing part of everything that happens after.

Girl, you have quite literally outdone yourself on this fic. The writing and concepts- hell even the amount of effort put into this is incredible. Just the small details even, including the songs- the meaning behind why it’s Mike’s favorites and having Will listen to Asleep. I really cannot say it enough times how well done this was. This was an amazing fic. Thank you for this, and good luck with that book you want to publish, I’m sure you can do it. ❤️❤️❤️

“Nothing's going on.” Mike said, his voice coming out sharper than intended. It wasn’t like he could tell Will he was getting drunk every other day so he could try to drown out the fact that he was a disgusting queer, in love with his best friend. “Sorry.” He looked down at his lap. He could feel his thighs bleeding underneath the blanket. “Im just tense, with the whole apocalypse thing. It’s nothing.”
Will looked over Mike’s face in the contemplating way he always did when he didn’t believe Mike. “That’s not nothing,” he breathed. “I know we’re all dealing with what happened with Vecna…but you’ve been drinking a lot Mike,” his voice was getting shakier as he continued to speak. “Im really worried about you.”

The alcohol definitely calmed him down. Quieted the panic in his head that came with being a queer. But he still knew what he was. He still thought about it. He still wanted to die.

Mike Wheeler has a lot of internalized homophobia. He drinks a lot to try and cope with his self hatred and constant thoughts of suicide, but no matter how much he drinks, he can't escape his love for Will.
