“Fuck,” Matt muttered, a hand reaching up to wipe across his eyes. “Fuck, Takashi!”
Shiro hadn’t been expecting the exclamation; the small monkey-shaped part of his brain told him to tense up, and he listened. He watched Matt furiously rub at his eyes, trying to keep himself composed for his fellow rebels, no doubt hovering around somewhere. Privacy was only relative in space.
“Matt...” he stopped himself, unsure how to proceed. Words were never harder than when it was entirely crucial he found the right ones. There was too much for him to say, and far too little words. I'm sorry, he wants to say, but it's not enough. I'm sorry I'm late, he thinks I'm sorry I made you wait. I wish it never happened. I wish we never left Earth. I wish I could hold you until it all stops burning around us.
He doesn't get to say any of that, though.
Matt's smile from the other end of the holo-screen told him everything. I'm sorry, Shiro heard, it's too late.
OR;
Matt and Shiro meet twice in space and it doesn't go very well both times. Feelings are hurt Kuron doesn't help and they try to make plans for the future. -

When Sokka was nine, he got his first soulpain.
It was nothing to worry about really. His soulmate likely just stubbed their toe or tripped. Nonetheless, Sokka freaked out.
He buried his face in his mother's parka, hiding his tears from the world.
He told her about how unfair it was, that he had to feel someone else's pain. How he hated to think of some random kid out there hurting whenever he did something stupid and injured himself.
He told her how he wished he didn't have a soulmate.
"Sokka, darling," she cooed, "your soulmate isn't meant to bring pain; they're meant to be a symbol of love and peace."

"You just turned fourteen a few weeks ago, right?” Jason whistled. “And I thought I died young.”
Tim shook his head. Took a step back.
No. Nope. No way.
This was not happening.
Or: After Tim dies, his soul remains stuck as a ghost at the Manor. Forced to watch Dick and Bruce grieve him and unable to do anything, the only thing making the afterlife bearable is Jason. Until the day his ghost departs.
Tim assumes that Jason has passed on. But then the Red Hood breaks into the Cave. And for the first time, someone can see Tim.
Note: This fic is an emotional rollercoaster, and if you would like to see if you are tall enough to ride this ride, you can check the a/n at the beginning of ch 1!!

"Like Conner?" Robin asked, tilting his head to the side like a little bird (wow, he was so young)
"No, just... Kon? Like Kon-El"
"Kon-El, as in Kal-El?" It was another boy this time - Kid Flash - Kon's mind supplied, recognising the iconic yellow and red suit of the junior vigilante. KF pushed his way into the storage cupboard which, with the three of them now and the doorway crowded with heads, was definitely too close for comfort.
"Yeah - is it not the same here?" Kon looked around curiously and frowned when the heroes avoided eye contact sheepishly.
"It's just Conner" The Other Him huffed, arms folded across his broad chest.
"Okay 'Just Conner' - lovely chatting to you but do you think that there's, y'know, a way I can get home--"'
Or mainstream comics Tim and Kon meet the Young Justice crew and hilarity (Bearing in mind that this is my first foray into comedy) ensues. A lot of confusion.
