Summary
Jinx isn’t a handmaid because she’s obedient - she was probably the furthest thing from it. How quickly the smog based city would turn on him for not producing an heir to continue his lineage - his adopted daughter Jinx not fitting the bill. Being both far too female and not from his own bloodline to even be considered.

Jinx was becoming nothing but trouble, Silco couldn’t deny it anymore.
It’s true that since she came to him, some of her screws were a little bit loose and she needed help remembering who was a friend and who was a foe. But now? It was like she was hell-bent on making everyone in her path succumb to her will or else she would force them. It was as if her eighteenth birthday a month ago had triggered some kind of explosive inside her and now, she was as destructive as the dynamite-themed toys she created down in her cavern-based lab.
He knew why too.
Deep down, somewhere past the bubbling worry he felt for her lack of understanding of appropriate relationships, he knew she just didn’t understand. Because of the messy process and odd age she had been when taking her in, she believed that Silco wanted her as something more than just his child.
She was a good girl with misguided intentions. He knew that as well but it was harder to know that as she drugged him and forced herself atop him to prove her love.

Stuck as the guests of honour at a Gala neither one of them had been told about - let alone been planned for.
A party celebrating a lifetime achievements begins to feel more like prison for the couple as they're separated to deal with the roles only one of them had signed up for in the gift wrapped version of a political life Silco chose to lead. Jinx as the doting wife and Silco as the man of the hour.
Some surprises over shadow others and some get pushed to the side in the long haul of surviving through chaos. Members of Silco's past return to waste the stolen time of their evening and explosion of a different kind start to implode.

“Where have you been?” Silco asked.
“You know.” She deflected, wearing her badge of ‘teenage aloofness’ like a first-place ribbon at a science fair. "Out."
"Out?" he questioned.
"Yeah Sil, Out." she huffed angrily, displeased that her smothering father was again on her case like a cadaver dog sniffing out the bodies she kept buried in the basement. "Did you also lose your hearing when you almost drowned in that river?"
Jinx never claimed she was the perfect daughter and despite his attempts, Silco wouldn't say he was the perfect father either. Both of them were experiencing new roles in their lives without any help but each other and the voices ringing inside their heads like blaring alarm clocks fixated on their wrongs. Though Jinxes tended to be more violent than helpful.
With Silco adjusting to fatherhood for the first time and Jinx struggling to adapt to a father figure that somehow remained alive, neither of them really understood the right time to fight or forgive but Silco promised he would stay beside her. Curfews and Rules were broken but he was still holding on tight to the little girl he loved.

“And if I ask Sevika her side of the story?”
“She might tell you that I threw a bomb at her and that she kicked it into the shimmer barrels.” Without even taking a second to blink, the young woman took the opportunity to verbally bite back.
“Jinx….” She was constantly testing his limits. No amount of stock was worth more than the perfection that was his daughter, but he couldn’t lie and say her actions held no consequences. His men would probably be scrambling to pick up the pieces of her accident for weeks if the tiny snippet of a report he heard was true.
The funds he syphoned from a single barrel of the chemical he was famed for importing, could easily sustain a family for a few months – so to lose half a shipment would cause a few families to go hungry and at least a dozen junkies to be banging on their dealer’s door.
Maybe a few of those low-level dealers would try to knock on his office door for an audience with him, that is if Sevika’s intimidating nature or Jinx’s rabid dog chaotic energy, hadn’t scared them off first. Regardless, their needs weren’t a priority for Silco.
