Zuko gets a reading from Aunt Wu, drinks a lot of tea, and somehow gives good advice. Zutara Week 2026: Day 7 - time
"Take my time," she muttered thoughtfully. "You know, Zuko, you're actually pretty wise."
Zuko sat upright and stroked an imaginary beard, imitating his uncle. He said, "The cloud that passes slowly through the sky sees more of the world than the one that speeds above it in a blur."

She's one of the best spies under Hama's guidance, The Painted Lady, and she doesn't have much time. She's got to get into the museum, get the artifact to Hama and make it just on time—it should be simple, right?

Summary
After the fall of Ba Sing Se the Avatar is presumed dead. The Southern Water Tribe, unable to withstand the mounting pressure of war, is forced to collapse into the larger, safer Northern Water Tribe. Months later, Fire Nation ships start appearing in Northern waters. The simmering existential dread that the South has carried for generations is new to the Northerners — and it finally forces them to act. Uneasy, asymmetrical coexistence is still coexistence.
A marriage alliance, the last desperate bid of their cornered tribe.
Caught between two nations, Katara and Zuko must navigate a treacherous political landscape, the looming threat of Ozai and each other. Sokka stands next to them, arms crossed, rolling his eyes at the dramatics.

Summary
The Southern Water Tribe being kin to merfolk shapeshifters has been a guarded secret since before the Fire Nation attacked, but the longer they have stayed in hiding, the further their tribes have strayed. Entangling with outsiders is forbidden to protect their kind and keep secret their involvement in the war, but when a Fire Nation ship is sabotaged in their waters, one young shapeshifter defies this ancient pact to save an enemy prince.
or
Mermaid Katara follows Prince Zuko’s ship (certainly not because she finds him amusing) and saves him when Zhao blows it up… but in doing so gets stuck in human form until she can make it to the North Pole without her fins. And Zuko is stuck without his ship or crew on his hunt for the Avatar- who is holed up in the North Pole stronghold during a siege he is now missing! But at least he has a weird new (girl?)friend to travel with who is suspiciously good at waterbending and doesn’t seem to understand normal human behavior.
or
Katara and Zuko’s adventures on their way to the North Pole + Katara trying and failing to come across as not-a-mermaid + Katara replaces Iroh in ragebaiting Zuko, but Zuko lowkey enjoys it

Summary
Zuko goes into exile with a scar, a mission, and a wife.
The girl wears ill fitted ceremonial silks. She is too thin, with jutting bones and hollowed eyes. Dirt smudges her cheek. Her lower lip has a healing split in it. Gaudy as her finery is, she wears it like prisoner’s rags.
All of this Zuko registers in the time it takes him to reach the dais and bow. Every muscle aches with the remembrance of what happened the last time he knelt before Father. This time there is no begging, no roar of the crowd, no burning. Still—Zuko’s grateful to stand once more.
Slipping into soldier’s parade rest, he waits for what will come next, all too aware of the girl’s defiant body next to his.
“I am told that this is Katara of the Southern Water Tribe,” Father says, cruel amusement oiling his words. The phrasing makes the girl sound like a thing. “The last waterbender of their pathetic tribe.” Flames conceal all but his shadow, yet Zuko knows from long experience the exacting blade of his father’s smirk. The smirk he must surely wear now. Because he has built up his insult and now he lets it fall. “Your bride.”

Summary
Sticks and stones may break Katara's bones, but words—well, words were how the sticks and stones were brought to her homeland, to her family, to break countless bones of her own people. It was no surprise to her that at State University, Ba Sing Se, she would hear those same words, parroted by the pretentious, infuriating Zuko. She grew used to parrying his rhetoric, to challenging his debates, to waging her little war as she helped to organize against the bigger picture that set them against one another.
So what was she to think when, one day, Zuko crossed the aisle? How could the same mouth that spouted apologia for years now proclaim an alliance with her? How can she ever trust him?
A contemporary AU where the Gaang is a bunch of organizers, and Zuko has been the asshole thorn in their side.

Summary
When the next letter arrived, Zuko let it sit on his desk for a whole day before opening it, as if somehow Sokka would sense, a continent away, that he was still pretty pissed about Sokka trying to rope Iroh into this whole festival visit insanity. Finally, his point proven to literally no one except himself, Zuko waited until after a long bending practice, then a full bath, before he casually picked up the letter and broke the seal.
