If Eddie had designed this whole situation as a D&D campaign, he would have created a couple NPCs to help the Player Characters in the party get a better plan together. As it was, the party was large, split, and underpowered to deal with the Big Bad. Just as he was sliding into despair and sinking further into Max's lumpy couch, a new party member arrived. And about time, too.

He just ACTS and then has to deal with the outcomes.One time he came over to Dustin's to run a D&D one-shot, and needed to use the restroom. When Dustin said,

And then the cousin wouldn't answer Eddie's polite knock, or his "Hey - there's a line out here, Shrimp!" - Eddie decided to barge right in.

“We’re here!!!” He waved the arm that wasn't supporting Eddie - high in the air. “Right Here!! Over here!! Help us!!”Eddie felt relief that Dustin was about to be rescued by someone. He loved that little doofus. It was absolutely too late for himself, but Eddie *still* smiled as he drifted away from consciousness - following the light.

Eddie was as surprised as anyone to find out he actually liked Steve as a person. It wasn’t just shared trauma, or that Steve had rescued his dying-ass out of the Upside Down. Eddie liked the guy on his own merits. He was kind, and funny, and brave as hell.
