Summary
“Does your new special drink menu include an IV directly into my bloodstream by any chance?” Eddie asks as Steve turns the corner.
“If it did, we’d both be hooked up to drips by now,” Steve says, loading the coffee pot onto the warming stand and loading the small fridge beneath the counter with cartons of milk and cream. “I see you before I see the sun most days.”
“Is that a bad thing?” Eddie bends over the counter and Steve looks up, nearly colliding with Eddie’s chin.
Wild curls, warm eyes, toothy grin, minty toothpaste, woodsy cologne.
It’s enough to catch his breath, to weaken his knees, and he really can’t keep being stunned like this unless he plans on doing something very, very stupid.
Or, Steve's favorite customer at the coffee shop hosts a local early morning radio show. Between coffee and some of their favorite music, they might just fall in love.

Summary
Steve is drunk.
He doesn’t know what time it is, anymore. He remembers Robin leaving, reminds promising her he’ll be okay, but that must’ve been hours ago, now. He watches as the condensation on his beer drips onto his thigh, making the light wash denim darken, and pretends he isn’t listening in on the conversation across the room.
It’s hard to make out with the party in full swing, with U2 still blaring from the speakers and a hoard of people between them, but Steve’s gotten good at reading body language. At reading expressions. At knowing who is a threat and who isn’t, and the three talking to Eddie Munson right now?

Summary
Dustin watches Eddie's face as everyone else giggles. He's retained his typical intimidating smirk for much of this encounter, but as Steve stumbles through his fictional seduction, Eddie's eyes soften. His smirk slowly turns to a small grin.
“Didn't Wizard Romeo and Juliet both die?” he asks, in that same low, grumbly voice he always loves to use for big scary bad guys. The effect is jarring.
“Well, yes, but… they loved each other first,” Steve says, oddly sincere. “I think love is worth the risk. Wouldn't you agree? And then, uh, I'm gonna take off my helmet and, like—” Steve tosses his hair, shaking it out dramatically and running a hand through it afterward to fix any wayward strands.
"Ew,” Mike says.
Nancy presses a hand over her mouth, but it does nothing to hide her smile. Usually, this is the point where Eddie would make them all roll initiative. Dustin has his D20 ready. But Eddie smiles. Eddie fucking smiles, and not in that maniacal way he does before siccing something horrific on them, he fucking beams, and says, "You're gonna scrape your neck on his mace doing that, just so you know."

Summary
Watching Steve sit alone that first day- even with his ex and her new squeeze crowding his table- former King of Hawkins High with his bruised up face and puppy dog eyes, and apparently, knight in shining armor tendencies, Eddie never stood a chance.
It's Jeff, in the end, that finally badgers Eddie enough to let Steve be dragged over to their table- into Hellfire, and Dungeons & Dragons, and hopefully right into Eddie's arms- after Steve intervenes to stop Jeff being harrassed in the halls.
Now Eddie just needs to figure out what he's going to do with all of it.
Aka a hellfire adopts Steve fic, because give the boy some friends (and a boyfriend).

But then Steve’s eyes meet Eddie’s, and while they’re the same big hazel eyes that Eddie loves, the person staring at him through them isn’t Steve.
“Holy shit-” He gasps, his eyes widening in realization. “Buckley?”
Steve- no, Robin nods slowly and Eddie’s heart falls out of his ass. “What the fuck is going on?”

Summary
Steve stood Eddie up two whole times before everything in their world changed.
Okay, fine – Eddie knows that the first time doesn’t really count because Steve had called him to let him know ahead of time that he needed to bail, apologized many, many times for it and rescheduled for the next night, so Eddie hadn’t been all that bothered by it.
And then the next night arrived and Steve stood him up for real, and Eddie had stewed about it for a while.
He’d stewed until folks in the trailer park started getting noisy, started coming outside and gathering and shit, and then Eddie learned that there’d been a bad fire or something else fucking awful at the mall, and his blood had run cold and he’d felt like the dumbest guy alive for even thinking bad things about his relationship, his Steve, when there’d been a whole unexplored grand scheme of things to worry about.
And there had been, because Steve’s dad is dead. Hopper is dead and the cabin is gone and today...
Today his sister is leaving.
Steve’s not-sister Jane-El is moving to California, and Steve is staying here.

He doesn’t. Instead, he says, “Try me.”
Eddie lifts himself up on an elbow, turning to his side so that he’s looming over Steve when he says, “Just to confirm…”
Steve nods encouragingly, bolstered by the absence of a dismissive laugh, an awkward change of topic.
“You’re saying that you want me,” Eddie continues, eyes darting between Steve’s, “to talk about fucking a dude. To see if you get hard.”

Eddie´s heart breaks. All he wants to do is hug Steve and tell him it´s all going to be okay. That he will do everything to keep him safe, that a better life is waiting for him. He can´t promise that, sure, but he knows he´ll do whatever it takes to make it work.

The day Eddie is about make the move to California, Steve shows up on his doorstep.

When Eddie wrote that stupid song, he never knew it would be his only hit. Even then, it was only a hit because some DJ remixed it and made it popular in the club scene. He was a kid when he wrote it, inexperienced, and it showed in his writing. Eddie had grown since then and he was perfectly content with that.
