Stan shuffles, turning toward Kyle. He's facing away from him, his deep breaths evident through the sheets. He smells faintly of mint, though Stan's sure it'd be a much stronger scent if he were actually facing him. Kyle always applies an excessive amount of mint chapstick before going to sleep. Stan knows. He hates mint, but that distinctive smell of it lingering on Kyle's lips in the morning always makes him wish he didn't. Stan gulps, hot and and thick and uncomfortably running along his Adams apple. He always wondered if he would like the taste if he got one lick of how it tasted straight from Kyle's lips. Would it open his eyes? Would he suddenly realize he's been missing out on mint for years, or would it be something he already knows in the back of his mind, distantly?

If someone were to ask Stan if he was in love with his best friend, he could easily respond with an entire list of reasons as to why that could never happen. However, even if he came up with all of the reasons in the world as to why he shouldn’t be in love with Kyle, that wouldn’t necessarily mean he wasn’t in love with Kyle. It was, of course, much more complicated than that.
