Megatron clearly needed a different tactic this time. He'd already subjugated Starscream physically, to do so again would send him further down the spiral of resentment and despair. To turn Starscream's universe into a pleasure-drenched haze of capitulation, Megatron just needed to employ some patience. After all, there was more than one way to possess another mech.

“Yes,” Starscream snaps. “If it makes you stop talking.”

Jazz has a bad habit of flirting with the wrong people at the worst of times. Or maybe the right people at the... Well, still the worst of times.
Either way, making out with an autobot in a ditch is not the stupidest thing Starscream has ever done.

Starscream’s optics flick up, sharp and piercing, scanning the room for the first time.
They land on Jazz.
Jazz keeps his posture rigid, blank, obedient. He’s been under Optimus Prime’s gaze, under Prowl's, under far more respectable mechs than Starscream; he knows how to hold steady under scrutiny.
Starscream’s stare is… Different.
Calculating. Predatory. Uncomfortably sharp, like a dagger pressed under his chin.
“You.” Starscream says, pointing with the mug. “New.”
Jazz snaps a salute a half-klik faster than regulation.
“Yes, sir. Adagio, sir.”
“I didn’t ask.” Starscream sneers.

“Starscream expects to take command." Megatron reminded his comms officer, because a little thing like infanticide was hardly going to stand in Starscream's way.
"Two diverse sets of coding are required to kindle a new-spark." Was all Soundwave said.
Megatron understood his meaning immediately, but as Soundwave was implying he impregnate Starscream with his own replacement, he preferred to procrastinate over the situation by feigning ignorance for a few hours.

Years ago, Vos fell to Praxus in a conflict that nearly resulted in planetary war. The entire Vosian royal family was killed, but rumors persist to this day that a Prince of Vos still lives. None of that really matters to Detective Jazz, though, except that a body just showed up in his territory with some curious words scrawled on the wall behind the corpse. And for some reason, his secretary Starscream is acting more surly than usual.

“Pathetic. Small. Weak.” Grimlock shakes his helm dismissively, tail thudding against the dirt like a gavel. “Not challenge. Not fun.”
Starscream bristles, indignant despite the situation.
“‘Not fun’? I’ll have you know-”
“Quiet.” Grimlock growls, turning away. His tail knocks a tree over. He doesn't seem to notice. “Stay out of Grimlock’s way. Or next time, Starscream not be so lucky.”

Starscream crash lands on Dinobot Island. The only way he's going to survive long enough to get off the Primus-forsaken rock is to somehow convince an apex predator to protect him.
