Summary
Messmer coats the whetstone in oil and runs it along the ridge. The sound is still sharp, almost strikes a spark. He's cautious around the fuller. Rellana stares at his hands— his long fingers, the sinewy joints, and the claw-like nails. Perhaps she does find it insulting that his unsightliness should tend to something honed beautiful.
Messmer is terrified of love. Rellana is braver than him in every matter.
