There was a long pause in which Caitlyn sat twiddling her thumbs, anxiety pushing the frantic pulse of her heartbeat through her eardrums. Was that wrong? Did she already fuck up? She took a steady deep breath, finger hovering over the talk button until the familiar voice of the astronaut came through her headset once more.
“Damn, Houston. I didn’t expect you to sound so sexy.”

Vi looks at the big clock on the far wall. 7:46AM. She’s one minute late today. Every morning for the past six months - well, every morning Vi’s been on shift, so she’s just assuming about the other days - she’s passed by at exactly 7:45AM, always at a brisk walk, always in a perfectly-tailored suit, not a single long, silky-looking hair out of place.
7:47AM. The crisp clack of heeled boots on concrete pulls Vi out of her musings. There must have been some sort of emergency, because the subject of Vi’s (minor) obsession walks past the fire station at a faster clip than normal. Which is sort of saying something, because Mystery Woman’s got legs for days, long and slender, visibly toned with long, lean muscle through her suit pants. At the faster clip, Vi has less time to admire her ass and tiny, tiny waist as she walks by, but that’s fine, because the view as she leaves is fantastic.

Sabine turned from the counter to place the whiskey glasses on the table. Instead, she found Shin, standing inches from her. The breath hitched in her chest at their sudden proximity and the electrifying energy that was crackling wildly in the narrow space between them. Shin’s mesmerising blue eyes were a deep ocean of turmoil and it only took seconds for Sabine to drown in them.
Holding Sabine's gaze unflinchingly, Shin silently took the glasses from her and discarded them on the counter behind her, to which her back was now pressed. Her breathing steady, she moved devastatingly slowly—as if Sabine were a spooked animal that might bolt at any minute. Shin kept one hand on the counter, and reached up with her other to hold Sabine’s cheek in a tender caress. Her stormy blue eyes studying Sabine's expression attentively for any signs that she might protest to the sudden and unprecedented intimacy she had initiated.
She found none.
After returning from Peridea, Sabine and Shin spend one last night together before the New Republic decides their fate, and they must deal with the consequences of their actions.
