When Marion closed his eyes, Jean’s face floated there. He felt her hand on his arm, in his hand, on his brow as she soaked up his blood with her white gloves. He could almost imagine what her hand would feel like, inside his hollowness, if it held his beating heart.
She is handsome, she is pretty, she is the queen of tin can city.
When Marion opened his eyes, Sean was still there watching him. Marion felt the way Sean had held him in the lighthouse, the repeated stroke of Sean’s thumb across his cheekbone. He heard the way Sean had answered, with no hesitation, almost before Marion had finished saying it, But I love you.
Marion could see how tired Sean was, like the weariness inside of Marion was walking around outside. It made Sean loose in the joints, his head at a listless angle.
And still there was a thrum in the air between them, drawn taut from Marion’s chest to Sean’s.

"Byers does this thing every semester called the Muse Project, where you pick a person or a subject and your final piece for the course has to focus on them. Then at the end of the semester, there’s this coffeehouse where everyone invites their muse and shares their work. So obviously everyone picks whoever they’re dating at the time, and then they break up halfway through the semester and all the writing turns super angsty. Which would be fine, except I don’t write about people, like, ever.”
That’s a lie. He does write about people, but always in an abstract sense, and never more than once—the curve of a hip under his hand or the promise of a kiss on his neck, nothing you could spend a semester on. Before Samwell, and sometimes still, there never seems to be anyone permanent enough to write about.
A minute or so goes by before Dex speaks. “Does it have to be romantic?”
“Uh, no, not really. Just someone that inspires you.”
“So write about me.”

Summary
Before the start of the year, Nursey had a few ideas about how he and Dex would make sharing a room work.
He imagined rules about socks on doors, about texts warning of visitors. He pictured an allotted quiet time so he could get some reading done. Nursey imagined weekends rooming with Chowder to give Dex time to cool off, or weekends with Dex rooming with Chowder to give Nursey some space. They were better than they were as frogs, and even better than the year after that, but they still weren’t great. Nursey anticipated a lot of pushback, a lot of struggle.
He didn’t expect them to start having sex?
