“Etho, I was so worried!” Bdubs starts, not even bothering to catch his breath, not sparing Iskall a glance. “You didn't- I had no news from you. And I couldn't find you at the tower!”
Etho scoffs and looks away. Iskall frowns when they are unable to make eye contact with their friend. Something is terribly wrong.
“Last time you immediately came to see me,” Bdubs continues, his tone still so full of concern. “I thought-”
“Last time you hadn't betrayed me and caused my death,” Etho snarls, and this is maybe the most emotional Iskall has seen him since his return. It's not a good development, though.
Betrayal?
Bdubs looks crestfallen and about twice as shocked as Iskall feels. “What?”
“Get out,” Etho growls. “Go back to Impulse, or Ren, or whoever you gave your loyalty to.”
“Etho-”
“Do they know how fleeting it is?”Etho dies to the trapped portal in Double Life and, upon respawning in Hermitcraft, is convinced that Bdubs betrayed him and caused his death. Where better to heal (and hide) than the gigantic cave belonging to his former roommate?
OR: Iskall becomes spectator to the telenovela that is Bdubs and Etho's relationship and decides to help.

This story diverges from the original work at this point, focusing on Centorea and Rachnera as their relationship evolves, with their contrasting personalities becoming a source of ceaseless antics, arguments, and even physical confrontations.
While this work could be considered canon-adjacent, there are small liberties taken with the characters' physical appearances, e.g. Rachnera having 8 eyes instead of 6, as well as with the layout of Kimihito's house, since it is pretty poorly documented. The backstories for the main ship prior to their immigration to Japan are also completely changed.

Summary
Aguri thought for sure she'd die when she jumped out to stop Reaper from his rampage... but when she wakes up maybe 12 hours later fully alive and in a pristine white room she's abruptly proven wrong. It turns out her abusive fiancé managed to save her life, and when she refuses to help him chase down the human experiment that got them in all of this trouble in the first place she becomes his next subject.
What follows is a hellish process of mutation and trauma. But despite it all... Aguri escapes alive, and as she's returned to the real world she's been missing out on for the past five months she's going to have to process what she's missed, learn to care about herself again, and find out how a person obtains purpose when they didn't expect to live this long in the first place. But all of that's easier said than done when she's literally a monster now, and even worse... when she's felt like one her entire life.
(Can recovery possibly come to someone who believes they deserved it? And what's 'monster' even mean in the first place?)

One was carefully maintained; any weeds being disposed of as soon as they started to break through. The plants were categorized by color, by seed, by the fruits that they would grow.
The other was chaotic, long since ignored by its owner. Weeds crept towards the fence, searching for a crack, a weakness to exploit. There were no flowers here, merely what the dirt had decided to grant in all of its blessings.
