Too long he'd let himself be given nothing more than the bare minimum while his yearning seeded itself in his chest, compounding and twisting itself into something more. Too long he'd settled for mere scraps that only served to make that hunger worsen, festering and eating away at him.

I've never had emotional wound care like this, truly.
Taking the bittersweet bleeding lines where skin had been peeled away and lovingly covered them with a soothing salve. Bandaging the surface with snug assurance. And then wrapping my whole body with plush blankets. My feet sticking out just slightly allowing everything to be the absolute perfect temperature as the gentle warmth and comfort settles my grief stricken mind. -

Summary
Nicholas accidentally loses his Thomas as he traverses through No Man's Land in search of his long lost best friend Livio. Fortunately, Vash and two of his best friends are there to give him a ride. Nicholas doesn't intend on catching any feelings on the way, but it's difficult keeping his head under control when he's going to be stuck in the backseat of a cramped car for weeks on end with the most gorgeous man he had ever seen.
Alternatively, Nicholas joins Vash's road trip with Roberto and Meryl. Nobody dies, everyone is a normal human, and the Eye of Michael is a typical religious group instead of a terrorist cult. All is well, besides Nicholas' poor heart.

“There you go hurting my feelings again,” Vash says, but he’s smiling. A real one. As soft as mashed fucking potatoes. It pisses Wolfwood off enough to slam that pretty face into the concrete. Or into his own face. He hasn’t decided just yet.
“—will save my own life for once and get out of town without making an ass of myself.”
“You’re talking about my ass a lot.”
And then Vash kisses him.

Summary
Vash gazes out at the endless expanse of desert stretched out before them, then turns to look at Wolfwood, a thoughtful, terrifyingly sincere light in his eyes when he says, “We make a good team. I’m glad I met you, Wolfwood.”
Wolfwood’s heart breaks, the way it always does when Vash reminds him of the truth of what he’s doing here, the impermanence of it.
“Yeah,” Wolfwood rasps, because staring into those eyes forces honesty out of him. “Hate to say it, but you’re not a bad partner either.”On a bench overlooking the desert, Vash and Wolfwood share a drink.
