    Summary

For centuries, the Shenlin Tribe lived entirely suspended in the bioluminescent canopy of the Spirit Wilds, strictly forbidden from touching the scarred, war-torn earth below. Kiri, an apprentice Spirit Warden and botanical prodigy, was perfectly content to spend her life floating in the wisteria, speaking to ancient trees and tending to her lazy spider-sloth.

Then, the Avatar crashed into her branches.

Armed with radical empathy and devastating woodbending, Kiri breaks tribal law and steps onto the ground to help heal a fractured world. But the earth below is complicated. The rivers are poisoned, the armies are cruel, and a heavily scarred, incredibly angry Fire Prince is tracking their every move. To save the world, she will have to teach a traumatized Avatar how to stand his ground, remind a cynical warrior how to dream, and show a banished prince that even the darkest, most burned ashes can grow something beautiful.

In an alleyway tucked between walls of packed earth and creeping vines, Nila lingered where the sun could not reach. The road ahead was clear all for the unified march of heavy boot steps. Sat on the soldiers' wide shoulders was a shining structure of crimson and gold, lace curtains drawn taut.

    The Fire Lord's palanquin.

A stark image against the muted tones of her village, it scorched along the healing wounds of a century war. It served as the pure reminder of how powerless they'd been against flames. Nila didn't know this Fire Lord. Not really. But she knew this village and she knew its people.

She knew, in that moment, there was no man they hated more than Fire Lord Zuko.

    Summary

When a pair of twins were born under a terrible storm they said the spirits were displeased with the Southern Water Tribe's leader. Some believing his bloodline was tainted. Cursed.

Kallik grew up knowing she was different. Often keeping her distance from the rest of her tribe after the incident involving her late mother. It was safer that way. No one would know her secret that way.

Which is why after she and her siblings found a boy frozen in the ice, she realized how hard that secret would become. Especially with a prince hellbent on capturing them hot on their trail.

    Summary

A ghost from the Northern ice, Korora was raised in the hearth of the enemy, a war-prize turned shadow, surviving on the sharp utility of her silence. Now, she stands at the right hand of Fire Lord Zuko: the cool water held against his fevered rule. In a court built on lineage and smoke, she is a quiet sacrilege, too useful to exile, too dangerous to touch.

Between the crushing weight of the crown and the ghosts of an old exile, they have built a sanctuary of reports and tea, of restrained touches and shared silence. But inside the suffocating heat of the Royal Caldera, the distance between ruler and advisor is beginning to collapse. Behind closed doors, amidst the scent of cedar and cooling ink, neither is brave enough to name the hunger that has lived too long in the dark, and neither is strong enough to keep it there.

I mostly wrote this because I had to weave Korora into the ATLA universe and the idea would not leave me alone. I’m still finding the shape of the story, so canon may be followed, bent, or quietly set on fire.
