“And you’re gonna do that, where? At the 133?” Buck avoids his gaze. “Or you’re just transferring to a random station where nobody knows you and you can pretend you’re fine?”
“I’m going to the 217,” Buck finally says.
“You’re…” Eddie starts, then scrunches up his nose in confusion. “Why would you even want to–”
Oh no.
Oh hell no.
“Are you fucking serious right now?”
Buck doesn’t say anything, doesn’t even look at him.
“Buck.”
“What.”
Breathe, breathe, brea-

Hen and Chim share an air mattress in the living room, the only place one would really fit, while Eddie and Buck share Buck’s bed. Which, again, is fine. He has no problems sharing a bed with Eddie. He’s his best friend, of course, he’s fine with it.
There are the dreams, too. He’s had sex dreams every night for the past week, faceless people on their knees, featureless bodies for him to grind against.
Tonight, he thinks he’s asleep, grinding his cock against the backside of someone.

“I have loved you,” Buck said, “across fires, floods, earthquakes, mistaken identities, one brief period where everyone believed I was a secret prince, and the unfortunate week when you were cursed by a jealous botanist.”
Eddie’s mind snagged. “A what?”
“But even if all that vanished,” Buck continued fiercely, “even if every memory burned away, I would love you still. In this life. In the next. In whatever strange world dares to separate us and call itself real.”

“Which do you think makes you feel most loved?”
Eddie thought for a long moment. Too long, maybe. Then he shrugged, “Honestly, Buck? I have no idea.”
Buck’s brows pinched up. “What do you mean? When have you felt the most loved?”
“Don’t make a big thing of this, Buck. Promise?”
Buck made a show of crossing his heart, brows still raised curiously.
“I’m not sure I’ve ever… really felt loved in a relationship? I’m not convinced that I know what makes me feel loved…”
OR -
After finding out that Eddie doesn't know what his love language is, Buck sets about finding out for him. He begins a five week experiment, one for each love language, to figure out which will make Eddie feel the most loved.

“Shh, no, don’t talk. I just got a response, finally. From the others. They’re coming, Eddie. You’re going to be okay, just stay awake.”
The elevator hadn’t moved yet. They were still trapped in no man’s land, still stuck too far for them to easily get to Eddie and save him. Buck could try to keep faith, but Eddie knew better, and so Eddie had to say it before he lost the chance.
“Buck, listen, I—”
“Eddie, don’t. No goodbyes, okay? Please?”
“I’m not going to die without saying this, so shut up and listen.” Eddie managed to rasp out.
Buck, to his credit, shut up and listened.

"Eddie!" Buck barges into Eddie's house with his strawberries and honey and burning need to understand what the fuck just happened. "Why have you been telling everyone at the farmer's market you're gay and have a husband??!"
"Uh, cause I haven't?" Eddie says, looking confused, mug halfway to his mouth.
"Then why does everyone at the farmer's market think you're gay and happily married?" Buck exclaims. "Gayly!"

“He’s not,” Christopher interrupted after he swallowed, his eyebrows furrowed, “that’s not- no. Bucks not my uncle.”
His abuela waved a dismissive hand, “Oh, of course not, I know that. Isn’t that a thing you young ones do? Refer to your parents' close friends as aunts or uncles?”
And here’s the thing, yes. He refers to Hen and Karen as his aunties. He’s never blinked at that. He routinely tells people that he and Denny are basically cousins.
Sure, he even calls Maddie and Chim his aunt and uncle without a second thought, but that’s because - well, that’s because..
“He’s not my uncle,” Christopher repeated, “He’s my other dad.”

“Sorry just paying for…”
“Table 12! I remember,” she injects brightly whilst ringing him up.
Eddie only winces slightly at the final count of the bill as he reaches into his wallet for his card.
“You have a gorgeous family.”
Eddie feels his face split into a wide grin. “Thank you.”
“How long have you and your husband been together?”
The words rattle around in Eddie’s head for a moment as he stammers like a fool, mid-swipe of his card. “I—Uh, seven…seven years.”
The waitress smiles brightly. “That’s so sweet, have a great rest of your day, sir.”
“Uh, yeah. Thanks.” Eddie places a fiver in the tip jar and spins right on his heels, leaving the cafe in a rush.
Who did she—did she mean? Buck?

“I uh, I need a favor,” Eddie states, rubbing his hands anxiously together.
“Anything,” Buck says easily, like if Eddie told him he had a body out back that he’d help bury it and hide all the evidence.
“It’s kinda big,” Eddie says, his voice shaking and when Buck takes a look of alarm he rushes to add, “Not like, anything illegal. God, no, if it was illegal I wouldn’t- I need you to finger me.”
Buck freezes, literally stops breathing and just stares wide eyed at Eddie. “You… what?”
Eddie closes his eyes in embarrassment, his face heating up so hot that he’s sure he’s the color of a tomato. “That isn’t- I wanted to- I think I’m gay but I don’t know and I just need your help. You’re the only person I trust to do this, Buck.”

Missing Chris is less of an emotion these days and more of a physical entity. He’s sure everyone can see that he’s slowly hollowing himself out, that he can’t do much of anything else.
But when Jee laughs at him trying to get his tongue to touch his nose, and Mara loops one of her arms through his to keep him from tossing the rest of his cup in the garbage, Eddie feels solid again.
Maybe he likes yellow birthday cake ice cream after all.

Has Eddie ever thought about this?
The question first hit him as he drove to clear his head, somewhere between his apartment and the freeway, and it hasn’t let up since. It’s needling at him like an itch he can’t reach, impossible to ignore, impossible to forget.
Has Eddie ever looked at another man and wondered? Has he ever felt that slow, curious burn that’s crawling its way up Buck’s throat right now? Has he ever, holy fuck… has he ever looked at Buck and wondered?
He needs to know.
No.
He needs to show him.
Or; What if after Tommy kisses Buck, his only thought is I want to do this with Eddie.

“Chris,” Eddie says, nudging him. “You wanna say hi? Properly?”
Christopher flips him off, discreetly, and then to Theo he says very sweetly, “Hi, Theo.”
Buck’s heart swells to thrice the size of whatever it was, and he’s hit with a rush of love so intense he’s tearing up with it. Eddie’s no better, eyes sparkling.
“Hi,” Theo says, and then presses himself back towards Buck, clutching his spider–man tightly. “You’re Buck’s big best friend.”
Christopher grins. “I am, yeah,” he says, cheesing so hard. “You’re Buck’s tiny best friend, aren’t you?”
Theo nods shyly. “Yeah.”
Christopher holds out his hand, tilting his head. “I’m Chris,” he says, and Theo takes it, his small hand cradled perfectly in Christopher’s palm. “What’s your name?”
“Hi Kiss,” Theo says, in awe. “My name is Theo.”

The Frontier is a good truck. He knows that. Reliable, practical, decent on gas for its size — Buck had done research before he bought it, had shown Eddie a spreadsheet, an actual spreadsheet, color-coded, and Eddie had looked at it and then looked at Buck and thought something very specific that he hadn’t been ready to name yet either. That was before. This is after. The point is; the truck is good.
But it’s not Buck.
