    Superman’s parents had written the blueprint for their sons downfall, and Lex would be the architect who brought it to life. He would give the alien exactly what his creators intended for him, but on Lex’s own terms. An heir, a future, a leash. Soon enough superman would be his to command.

     


    Lex has a plan. It’s going well. He has his army of monkeys spewing out constant Superman hate, a mindless clone who is unstoppable even to Superman, Boravia in his pocket, a deal for half of Jarhanpur, his pocket dimension, and a prison designed to hold the alien. Everything is perfectly planned until a message from Superman’s dead parents, hidden in the ice fortress, hands Lex an entirely new idea. One far more dangerous and personal.

    Drake rubbed his face as he approached the screen. “Okay. Due to persistent, aggravating, relentless nagging—” he cut a pointed look at Kon, “—I will now be walking you through the events surrounding my retrieval of Bruce Wayne from a temporal displacement, why Ra’s al Ghul keeps sending me flowers as part of a murder-proposal pact, and why I am, as of last quarter, the CEO of Wayne Enterprises.”

    There was a beat of stunned silence.

    “All of which,” Drake added dryly, “are, somehow, related.”

    “Wait—flowers?” Richard said. “From Ra’s?”

    “What the hell is this timeline?” Stephanie mumbled.

    Kon said nothing, just gave Timothy a supportive nudge and plugged in the drive.

    The screen blinked to life.

    Will breathed in a ragged breath. Black smoke poured from his mouth as he tore himself free from the wall. He collapsed forward, coughing and gasping on the cold, moist floor.
    His heart pounded in his ears as he shakily scrambled to his feet. Eyes darting around the abyss, he started to run. And he ran, and ran, and ran.
    His feet pounded on the ground when suddenly he found himself on a familiar path. Finally, something familiar. Will sprinted through the woods, as a feeling of hope filtered its way through the panic. He was getting there, he was gonna be safe, it was finally within reach.

    The pain in his chest and legs screamed at him to rest, but he couldn't risk stopping. He pushed himself further, calves aching with each step. Suddenly, a loud screech echoed through the air from somewhere up ahead.
    Will skidded to a stop as the monster moved on the path ahead. It was in the way, standing between him and safety.
