Chrissy Cunningham stands before him in profile, chin ducked down, only looking towards him out of the corner of her eye, wearing a smile that Eddie kindredly recognizes as mischief. Right there, on Jonathan Byers’ bed.
Jonathan is exhausted after trying to find Will.
Nancy is exhausted after trying to find Barb.
And Steve is just tired.
There are matching scars on Jonathan and Nancy’s palms. Steve’s nose is busted up by the very boy who just grabbed him and saved him from a monster- after which, Steve saved him in return. Nancy's bat is loosely dangling from Steve's fingers.
And the three of them collapse, falling into each other, curling around each others’ aching bodies in Jonathan Byers’ cramped bed in the house with the peeling wallpaper and the burn scars on the carpet and the frantic alphabet scrawled on the wall in an attempt to communicate with a boy who couldn’t become a ghost.
They don't even have the energy to shower. To wash off the blood and the smell of smoke from burning hell-fire creatures.
They just fall into each other, the weight of gravity too hard to fight.

His brown curls cascaded around his face, blocking his features from view, but Steve could see the way he shook. And that high-pitched sound? That was coming from Eddie.
