Summary
Rose was not able to save Garnet and Pearl from the Diamonds’s combined power and is the last remaining Crystal Gem. White finally reveals the truth of Pink’s shattering to the other Diamonds and they all decide to confront her on Earth together. They arrive just in time for the birth of Steven but too late to confront Pink, to fix what was broken. In wanting to be better for Pink, they decide to “stay” on Earth and do what they never could for Pink. For Steven. Be there and be what humans like to call, family. A very complicated mess of a family.

It has been suggested that White Diamond got her ideas of how she had to be and run things from simply being told so by some Even Higher Power, but personally, I'd find this a little repetitive and not all that interesting, so here is an exploration of the Diamonds' backstory and, by extension, the origins of the gempire.
The other Diamonds come in in the second chapter.
