Samira,
I know you came here expecting a signature. I promise you’ll have it. All I ask is that you come back to South Sudan with me for one month. The clinic could use another physician and someone who knows the place as well as you do. If Patrick wants to tag along, tell him he’s welcome. The more volunteers the better. When we get home, I’ll sign every page and wish you both a lifetime of happiness. I mean that, even if it probably won’t look like it does.
Forever yours,
JackOr exes Doctors Without Borders Mohabbot

"Sometimes the grief —" She motions both hands in a wide cradle at her gut. "Feels like a stomach. And it's not hungry anymore, but it's not empty either. It's just been digesting for decades and nothing is moving, it's just simmering and building and it burns."
It takes a moment, but she steels herself enough to meet his eyes again.
She doesn't think she has any right to ask, but she's already cracked open — more than she's ever been with someone — so she does.
"Do you still feel that way?"

All of these things she swears she would have done if that silver key hadn't tumbled into her open, begging palm.

Maybe it's parental hormones causing delusions or the fact that Catra never speaks more than two full sentences to her subjects, but people don't seem to realize that every kid looks the same. Seriously, every single one. The moment you crop out their outfit and slap them against the same soft gradient background, they all lose their spark of individuality, dulled to a simmering, unoffensive caricature of youth. It's kind of horrifying.

"Are you always this impossible?"
"No, never," Trinity said, shaking her head. "I usually do whatever I'm told. How do you think I got this far?"
"Ah, so it's just me who brings this side out of you," Victoria replied, smiling. "Combative."
"Alive," Trinity corrected her, causing Victoria's eyes to widen. "You make me feel alive, like I'm not just going through the motions."
"So you're a romantic," Victoria said.
"Not at all, but I think for you I could be."
