THIS IS NOT A FANFIC
I just had a moment. This is a rant/essay I suddenly felt compelled to write after hearing about incest shipping on twitter.
I cover Genetic Defects, Reproduction as a staple of romantic/sexual relationships, Family Dynamics, and Power Dynamics.
I also discuss the interpretation of Catra and Adora as adopted sisters, And at some point I go off on a tangent about a fanfic I never finished.Bookmarked by Dualight

Bookmarker's Notes
An interesting read, definitely makes a good point as to why it may be a good idea to reexamine why one has the responses they do, regardless of what that response is.

She rasps at him. “H... hua..”
“How...?”
A nod. “Luh...”
“Long...? How long...” The doctor sighs. “You’ve been through a lot, Summer. I don’t know how much you can recover--”
She shakes her head. “Nn! Nn.... Hua... luh... gugh?” Every fragmentary sound is a monumental struggle, and by the end of it she’s shaking, begging the man to understand her with her eyes. She has to know...
“...How long... were you gone?”
Summer nods, desperately.
“Hmmm.” The man takes off his hat. “I’d have to ask Yang and Ruby that to be sure, but... I would guess around twelve years.”

"Her venerable bows looked bearded": One Piece, Intertextuality, and Moby Dick by ghostwriterofthemachine

Summary
Eiichiro Oda’s One Piece is a decades-long, sprawling, occasionally unhinged serialized manga, and within that decades-long sprawl there are many, many references.
Herman Melville’s Moby Dick is another overly-long, sprawling, unhinged piece of fiction, thought by some to be the greatest novel in the American canon.
Let's discuss.
Or: 2.6k of meta essay analyzing and unpacking Oda's use of the Moby Dick allusion. Yes, really.

Summary
Born and raised in sleepy little Pallet Town, Ash Ketchum has always looked outwards to the vast and beautiful world beyond. Driven by wonder, ambitions sparked by the legendary Champion Lance, and the entirely justified desire to shut up Gary Oak, Ash sets out to make his mark on Kanto and the Indigo Conference that awaits him.
But the world of Pokémon has other plans. Joined by a humble Nidoran, Ash soon finds himself in for more than he bargained for when they find themselves facing Team Rocket, fantastically powerful pokémon, and friends he never could have imagined.
An epic journey story, unfinished but actively updating and fully planned. 2.1 million words on FFN and counting.
