Summary
They said that a guide pope is a blessing for the Church.
Thomas believes this too, even though he is just an ordinary human being. After the events of the conclave, he is torn between calm and discomfort, as he experiences a series of strange symptoms that he attributes to years of overwork. Is being driven by the idea of touching Vincent and being in his company part of it? And why does Vincent try to keep his distance despite their friendship and Thomas's support? Being a guide pope is complicated. Because although he is considered more powerful, he is also considered more dangerous by the Curia and the world.
Within the walls of the Vatican, sentinels and guides sense that something is afoot.

Dennis is injured in the field while facing one of his worst fears, and Robby has to deal with the reality that he has feelings for Dennis, that Dennis might not recover, and that it's his fault that Dennis was in the field in the first place.

Something’s wrong with Dennis.
It starts small, just little things that Robby hardly registers at first. It’s a busy day, it’s been a busy week, so when it vaguely ticks that Dennis is a little quieter than usual during rounds, fumbling his notes, missing cues he normally catches, he doesn’t actually think twice about it.
Nor how when Robby asks him a question about a patient’s chart, and Dennis blinks like he’s been startled awake.
It’s only when Robby looks, really looks, that he notices that something is… off.Actually off.

“—his vitals are stable. BP…” Mohan trails off, staring at the screen behind him.
“What?” Dennis asks, glancing at the monitor. His blood pressure looks fine, a bit elevated but understandable from the tail end of adrenaline following his fall. And other than that, he’s… Oh. He frowns at his BPM of 114. That’s… unusually high for him.
Mohan looks back at Robby. “I swear his BP has been in the normal range with his pulse at eighty-five during most of my assessment.”
“Order a CT,” Robby says.
“I don’t need…”
He trails off when he gives Whitaker a stern look that makes his stomach flip. Yessir.
He risks a glance at his monitor, seeing the number rise again, and oh. Oh. Oh no.

“Yes, of course,” Dennis said breathlessly. “Why do you keep asking? Can’t we just keep going? Really, you can do whatever you want with me. It’s all fine.”
And suddenly, alarm bells went off in Jack’s head.
Guilt slammed into him with brutal force.
He looked down at Dennis. Then at Robby.
He had to take a sharp breath, desperately hoping he was wrong, but he saw the same realization hitting Robby, panic layered on top of it. It all snapped into place.

Jack and Robby have been dating Dennis for months, taking things slow and building trust around long shifts and rare shared nights off. One quiet evening at home turns more intimate than planned. When Dennis agrees too quickly, they don't realize something is wrong...
