Dan didn’t have any friends in Rome. Sometimes, Jenny took a train from London on weekends and visited him, but so far, Dan hadn’t really talked to many people here. It was only about four-thirty at home, so he wouldn’t be surprised by a text from his dad or Vanessa, but it wasn’t either of them.
According to the caller ID, it was Nate. Dan wasn’t sure when he set a contact picture of him, but he had a feeling Nate did it himself when he last had his hands on Dan’s phone. It was a blurry picture from some club in the Hamptons. Nate was sunburnt from the beach and squinting into the flash with his sunglasses pushed up into his hair, a shot of tequila raised in one hand.
Dan hadn’t heard from him since before he left, but they didn’t leave on bad terms. Not really. Nate was busy. The Spectator was taking up all of his time due to his frenzy to keep it out of hot water, so it wasn’t exactly surprising that he’d gone off the grid for a while.
Against his better judgment, Dan answered his call.

Summary
Magic has been outlawed in Camelot since before Arthur was born, and he grew up to lessons teaching it as something to be feared, something of pure evil. The notion had never sat right with Arthur, and there were days where he swore there was someone, or something, following and guiding his every step, all the way back to his earliest memories. Despite this, Uther was his father, his King, and he had no cause to doubt him. Surely he was imagining things, surely this feeling of ‘other’ was just the mindless daydreams of a child who never really had a childhood.
When the sorceress Morgause revealed to him the vision of his dead mother, who exposed a secret long since buried, Arthur’s faith in everything he had made himself believe began to crumble.
Now the King is dead, Arthur’s taken up the throne, and he’s finally begun to question just how evil magic truly is. It had taken his mother’s life, but it had brought him into this world in turn. Magic had given him life, and maybe a little something more…was that such an evil thing?
