Summary
In their Alternate Universe of It's a Terrible Life (Season 4, Episode 17), Dean Smith (Dean Winchester) and Sam Wesson (Sam Winchester) left their nine-to-five lives behind, and here they were in Massachusetts, by the ocean. They routinely traveled, saved lives, hunted monsters, and undertook various odd jobs for money. They were still figuring out how to live and have an income while saving people. They'd managed by selling off their belongings, giving them a small financial cushion until they could find more stable means, but they were now close to running out.
An opportunity arises to hunt a siren, and Dean jumps at it. Sam wanted to hunt something other than ghosts, and the small town is paying for their entire stay, so it's a win-win...Right?

Summary
Cas had mentioned too damn many times they had no idea if the portal would allow an angel to pass, but they'd agreed to try, together. And they did. Their hands held tight, no one let go. But just like every other long shot in their bloody lives -- the bleak hopes, the only plans -- it didn't work. They never do.
It's a human portal, after all. It only works on pure humans, so it should be no surprise that it would try to parse out any human part to throw out Purgatory, leaving the rest behind. When an angel in a vessel has both, it means tearing him apart. Literally.

When he discovers his passion is painting, much to the dismay of his parents, he drops out of college and tries to figure out his next move. His sister has a suggestion- come work at the summer camp she and Gabriel had spent many summers at- as the arts and crafts director. He agrees, if just to get away from his parents demands, an finds himself in a very different world. Hiking, horses, tons of kids? How will he survive?
Dean Winchester, a sort-of ex of his sister and Camp Cedar Hills guru, has seemed to take an (professional?) interest in him. It could be just the thing he needs to help him figure out his life. Except for the fact that Castiel absolutely fucking hates him.- Language:

“How the fuck do you know my name?” Dean hisses.
The man doesn’t look scared. He is watching Dean like there is nothing else worth watching, lips a little parted, eyes a little soft. And blue. Real blue, like the ocean on a postcard.
The ice spreading down Dean’s spine makes him shiver.
“I suppose you could say I’m your guardian angel,” the man murmurs. His breath fogs pale between them. All of him is unnaturally warm, like Dean’s touching somebody with the sun sewn up beneath their skin. “I have known you, Dean Winchester, for a very long time.”

Slowly, Mystery Man raises his head. And when his eyes meet Dean’s again, they are so full that Dean is nearly leveled by it. Just. There’s love there, affection, fondness, all in that haunted cornflower blue. They’re greedy, too, like they’re consuming every detail. Dean forgets to breathe. “You sure this guy ain’t dead?” he manages. “Cause you’re looking at me like the last time you saw his mug was ten years ago.”
Mystery Man inhales sharply but doesn’t so much as blink. “He’s very much alive. He made pancakes this morning.” No further elaboration.
“Right…” Dean says a little awkwardly. “Well, since this is happening, apparently, what’s your name?”
Now, Mystery Man hesitates, frowns. Finally, he says, “My name is Cas.”

Summary
Dean, Benny, Charlie, Garth, and Cas are old college buddies. In their thirties now, they meet up once a year to shed their adult responsibilities for a week. This year it's Garth's turn to choose where they go and he's still as obsessed with horror and weird shit as he was back in college. He ends up picking a supposedly deserted hotel in the friggin' mountains. The place is creepy as hell and as night falls, two things become increasingly apparent. One: the place isn’t as deserted as they first thought, and two: Dean’s college stalker is back from the dead.

“I agree,” Castiel shrugged, “But would you have tried to kill me if I was human and had caused such chaos?”
A muscle in Dean’s jaw rippled, “We don’t deal with humans, that’s what the cops are for!”
“Dean…” Sam admonished softly, stricken.
Dean blinked, stunned by his own words. “I mean…I didn’t mean –“
Castiel swallowed, closing his eyes against a lance of pain in his chest that had nothing to do with the binding or the sigil. “Yes, you did. And its true, in any case.” Castiel gave him an out, but the words stung. He wasn’t human. Which meant he was – in a hunter’s mind – a creature.
An animal.
Something inside him felt like it was icing over...

Castiel is a seraph and a soldier. He doesn’t know how to be anything else. But knowing Sam and Dean Winchester has changed him in ways no angel has been changed before.
Not a human, not an angel. All he knows is what he’s not. When an ancient spell threatens to strip him of the free will he worked so hard for, Castiel has to re-learn what it means to be an angel, not just a Warrior of God.
