Summary

“It is now.”
The words leave his mouth before he truly realises what he is saying—before he realises what they mean.
Most of the room is quiet—people looking amongst themselves with silent but expressive glances as their minds run countless calculations which Sirius can guess are going in his favour. To them this statement is nothing more than that, a statement meant to further convince them into agreeing with his outlandish proposal.
But Sirius knows better.
His gaze trails the room, stopping first at his headmaster. Dumbledore holds an odd hardness in his eyes that Sirius can’t quite accept. Then Sirius catches the glint of recognition twinkle in silver of Walburga’s sharp eye. It runs into the three of them like a wave crashing against the shore. They glance at each in a gripping silence.
Walburga knows. Dumbledore knows. Sirius knows.
And for a moment, nothing else matters—not even the looming presence of Tom Riddle. The only thing these 3 could think of was that Tuesday all those years ago, before Sirius was disowned.

It was agreed that Sirius Black looked like his mother. It was something about how his hair fell on his shoulders, how his eyes sat in their sockets, how he was long and sturdy.
There are few who know it but Sirius is most like his mother—exactly like a Black—in those moments the outside world thought he wasn’t. His refusal to bend to his family’s will—his insistence to rage and rebel—weren’t Slytherin features necessarily but were definitely Black attributes.
