Summary
Mikey loved to paint. He loved to spray bright colors and designs onto the walls of their lair, it always made the place feel more alive.
Though after Shredder, and especially after the Kraang, it became more of an outlet than pure, creative fun. His mind became an artistic mess of emotions that he just had to paint, even the ones he didn’t want his brothers to see. He didn’t want his brothers to realize exactly how much everything affected him but…maybe they didn’t have to.
After running out of places to paint, Mikey gets an idea: why doesn’t he go topside?
He just wanted more places to spray paint and express the thoughts in his head, he never intended to become a famous anonymous artist practically overnight! Mikey may be named after a famous artist, but that doesn’t mean he’s used to fame himself.
He really hopes Raph doesn’t find out about this.

The plan is simple. If all else fails, Michelangelo will make a time gateway for Casey to undo what Leonardo, in his youthful arrogance, started all those years ago; it will require sacrifice, but they are ready for it.
Until the moment comes, of course.
Or, in other words - what if Future Leonardo and Michelangelo both end up in the present with Casey?

They’re halfway across the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge, under the indigo blanket of twilight, when Raph realizes Casey has been very quiet.
As a matter of fact, he hasn’t heard Casey say a word since the kid was crying on the comms, begging Leo not to go away.
He glances over his shoulder at the back row of seats. Casey is sitting on April’s other side, hunched forward, arms wrapped around himself as if he’s staving off the cold. His eyes are glassy and freshly traumatized and Raph realizes he’s let something pretty important slip.

Casey Junior never really had a reason to be interested in romance. He’d spent a great deal of his childhood in an alien apocalypse, after all. What was the point of falling someone just for them to get kraangified or killed within the month? It was pointless.
Sure, he’d heard stories. He’d received his fair share of confessions. He’d seen Master Michelangelo nodding him along to try and get him to go out with this one particular yokai boy that had asked to kiss him. This was what was expected, wasn’t it? Yet, he could still remember the disappointment on the yokai’s face when he’d given a strangled “no thank you” and proceeded to run away. And the conversation with Master Michelangelo and Leonardo afterward about exiting with grace in those situations. He’d been twelve at the time, but even now, at seventeen, he found himself feeling the same way.
People were weird.

Alternatively: In which Rise!Raph can’t get a break from his brothers, not even in a different dimension, and they sort of adopt each other. The family tree is getting harder to explain!
