The light ahead of him turned red, and he eased the car to a stop right in front of the crosswalk. He double-checked that his doors were locked, and yeah, they were. He breathed a small sigh of relief at the uninteresting street, then leaned back in his seat to wait for the light to flash green. He raised a hand to his head, massaging his forehead to concentrate on driving. But, with the impending image of Akaashi being hurt again pressing through his mind, it was rather difficult.
There was blood, screaming, and so much pain flowing through his head, seemingly on repeat.
But for some reason, it seemed all too real.

"You don't have to be sorry," Osamu's eyes crinkled. "I just...the only thing I could think was at least if you were in pain, that meant you could still feel, and you could still feel, you could still move."

Pain was a part of the game. At least, that's what Suna Rintarou told himself. With a future position on the National Team on the line, Suna must prove he can play with the best, no matter what. Pain was a small price to pay.
But pain isn't an underlying issue, merely a symptom of something larger, and Suna realized far too late that some broken bones can't be fixed with a cast.
Or: Suna untangles his feelings for Osamu as his former teammate helps him recover from a potentially career-ending surgery, while simultaneously shoving down his attraction to current teammate, Komori Motoya, who he may never play with again.

“Ya son of a bitch, I knew-“ Osamu cut himself off when he noticed the bruise on Atsumu’s cheek. His eyes trailed down, stopping at the finger-shaped bruises around his neck.
“‘Samu, you really shouldn’t be here,” Atsumu said quietly, all his loud confidence gone as he shifted uncomfortably under Osamu’s gaze.
“He’s fuckin’ hittin’ ya?” Osamu’s voice was lower now, but his angry tone made Atsumu shrink away from him. “That why ya been avoidin’ me?”
