As the halls quieted and the flicker of torchlight stretched long over polished stone, Iwaizumi leaned against a column just outside Oikawa’s chamber. One hand rested on the hilt of his sword; the other hung loose, twitching with thought.
He couldn’t sleep. Wouldn’t, even if he could.
Too much didn’t sit right.
The poisoning, or attempted poisoning had all the markings of something intentional. Precise. Subtle. Cowardly.
And if it was targeted… it hadn’t been at Lord Fukuroda.
No. If someone wanted to make a statement, they wouldn’t go for a foreign envoy.
They’d go for something far more devastating. Something that cut closer to the crown.
Iwaizumi’s jaw clenched.
Oikawa.
Because in the entire kingdom of Aoba Johsai, there was only one heir.

Summary
“Okay,” Iwaizumi snorts, catching a glimpse of Oikawa’s pout beneath the shelter of his hood. He resists the urge to shoulder check Oikawa’s horse with his own. He’s already toeing the line on the appropriate amount of casualty that can exist between a knight and his prince, and Iwaizumi has always been a man of principle and duty despite an entire childhood flapping behind them like capes.
He wants to snatch his wrist, tell him to ease up, pinch his cheek until it’s pink and free from Oikawa’s teeth, but all he can offer him is his unwavering service. He knows that Oikawa finds value and comfort in his lifelong loyalty, but when Iwaizumi sees him like this, it’s difficult to repress the urge to offer him more.

Summary
Today is June 9th, 2013, and it’s noon, which means it is midnight in Japan, June 10th. Iwaizumi’s birthday. One month and ten days before Oikawa’s. Summer babies in a rain-soaked Japan, the both of them, that’s how their mothers retell the stories. Oikawa’s mother especially loves to recount that particular summer, that particular version of Oikawa, new and small and reaching. Oikawa can’t recall a rainy summer, a rainy birthday, without Iwaizumi. He can’t remember handling the heft of a locker room without that familiar hand on his back keeping him steady, either.

The leaves rustled overhead; Hajime gazed up—and just about managed to reach out before Oikawa landed onto him with a yelp, knocking them both to the ground in a heap of limbs.
“You absolute bastard—”
Hajime was faintly aware of his sheathed sword trying to stab him on the thigh. He shuffled around and belatedly realised he’d landed on top of Oikawa in his rushed, clumsy attempt to catch him.
“Well,” Oikawa panted, “this might be the first fortunate thing that’s happened to me in days.”
in which the demon king gets cursed, and he seeks the help, of all people, of the man who’s supposed to kill him.

Summary
They are trapped in a gray area, a space filled with unspoken words and memories of the past.
For a few seconds Oikawa allows himself to exist in that gray area, where there is only Iwaizumi and the soft piano medley. Hundreds of candles are spread throughout the room, each flame casting a gentle glow and draping Iwaizumi in shades of gold. Wisteria hangs from the ceiling; a mosaic of purple and white that compliments the dark fabric of Iwaizumi’s suit beautifully.
Perhaps, in another life, they could’ve had this. Beautiful flowers and gold bands.
(or: seven years after their break-up, oikawa and iwaizumi run into each other at a wedding).

It was on an uneventful Tuesday morning in a Medical Physics elective lecture that Tooru first saw her—all sharp angles and tattooed arms—Hajime Iwaizumi. It was I-need-her-in-my-bed at first sight, and Tooru spent the whole two hours of the lecture staring at the way the muscles on Hajime’s back shifted with every movement. Tooru was confident and loud in the face of anything, but when Hajime met her eyes on the way out and smirked at her—well, Tooru had to skip her last lecture of the day to cry in Atsumu’s arms.

This one is.Or: Oikawa gets a soulmate mark one day, meaning that there is someone waiting for him, his perfect match, his ideal partner. That apparently isn't Iwaizumi. But it is not in their nature to give up and so they don't - against the whole world and its rules. Then one day they meet someone with the mark matching that of Oikawa's.

In a large space filled with couples celebrating their love, they are two lost souls hidden among the masses.
Perhaps it’s the alcohol or the cozy setting of the restaurant, or the spirit of Christmas, but Oikawa rises from his chair to approach the man. After all, nobody should be dining alone after they’ve been stood up by someone.
