Fires roared in the distance, consuming the research facility. A plume of dark smoke was rising towards the sky, and above it, beyond it, a darker spiraling tower breaching through the clouds, through the heavens, and towards the great black beyond. Mountain, they called it. Mountain it wasn’t.
He dragged his lame leg across the snow, pacing as fast as he could, away from the fires, away from the mountain.

Summary
The shape of a man takes a familiar form the closer he gets, but also foreign in his haggard state. And there is a touch of death to him, a smell of decay only the arcane can bring upon a person, and yet the first words out of his mouth are, “Viktor, are you okay?”
If Viktor could get his construct to laugh, he would probably be laughing now, the miserable kind that might bring with itself tears. But he doesn’t remember how to do any of that.

OR: The arcane chews them up and spits them out somewhere unknown and far away from home. Jayce is dying and Viktor can't let that happen, but there are significant obstacles in his way. Piltover’s Defender of Tomorrow dies on Wednesday evening. By Thursday, the announcement hits the morning gazette, and it won’t leave the news cycle until well past the Sunday edition.
Zaun’s Machine Herald scoffs the first time he reads it, tossing the stained and torn paper that his apprentice brought down the conveyor behind his shoulder. He is rewiring his left arm again, trying to iron out why his sensors detect a microsecond’s delay between the synapses firing in his brain and the acknowledgement by his mechanical nerves.
“Natural causes,” he scoffs. “He is what? Sixty years old? Men that rich do not die that young.”
