Summary
It should be impossible - having dreams about another person’s life. And yet, Grace kept dreaming about Simon. His life on Mars. The expedition. Horrible flashes of Eden. Impossible, much like the sudden appearance of Sanguis. Like the strange light he saw through images on the terminal.
Simon made it out. Something saved him. It brought him to a friendly alien and a kindhearted man who gave him more compassion than he had known in decades. He didn’t deserve it. They thought he was a botanist, someone who nurtured plants instead of dismembering corpses to feed to the soil.
Rocky wants the new human to get along with Grace. He’s scared and sad, but he seems nice enough. In a way, Grace and Simon remind him of himself and Adrian - like they were destined to meet.They're almost home.

The stranger walked towards Grace but when he noticed him backing away, he stopped. Instead, he leaned against the bunk he had just been laying. Crossing his arms, but smiling all the same.

Simon blinked as if that was too simple and smiled.
“That’s a nice name,” he said and gestured to the robot. “This is Armando. He’s a bit of a Nanny Robot. Looks after my health. Yours too.”
“Did you name it?” Grace asked, eyeing the machine.
“…yes?” Simon replied.
“You named the robot arm, Arm-ando?
“Yes.”
Grace considered this. “Fair enough. Carry on.”

Passing too closely to AT-5 on their way to Erid, Grace and Rocky are taken prisoner and separated by the COI. Simon, recently surfaced from the depths of the blood ocean — without the black box —, is thrown back in jail, the promise of redemption only a lie. Both pleading for their freedom, Simon and Grace are sent to work for The Company, a smaller workforce organization under the COI, to collect abandoned wares and scrap. Familiar words to Simon, the two are promised to be freed after their mission. If they can meet quota, that is.

Summary
Simon doesn't know what happened, or how it happened. The last thing he remembers is the walls of the sub exploding inwards as the last remaining space filled with air around him was flooded with thick blood. He thrust the black box with the life jacket out with his hand, hoping, praying, that it would reach the surface and the COI would find it.
Everything went black.
And then he opened his eyes. The sub was intact, still partially flooded with blood, but it was floating all around him instead of settling at the bottom. Simon was in zero gravity.

Summary
Grace couldn't believe it when a beetle arrived to Erid. A new crew of Eridians had been sent out on a new ship, the Blip-B, on a mission to save the three stars of the Alpha Centauri star system. It was supposed to be the first mission of many to help out neighboring stars.
But, reports had come back on the beetle. Reports of a moon in the system, covered with a thick viscous liquid with a creature resembling a human floating on the surface of the ocean. The report stated the Blip-B's crew had rescued the human and had effectively terminated the mission, racing through the system to get this human to Erid. To Grace.
The thing is, Grace knows the moon the crew reports does not exist. The Hail Mary's own scans of the journey through the system showed nothing even similar to the stray moon. And who they bring back isn't exactly human.
Or
Simon is turning into a monster on a strange planet and every day he strays further from who he was before.

It might be his last trip out, but Grace is making the best of it. He's just in the way at that point. His eyesight is no longer needed for the ship to run smoothly, and he could be teaching instead. He's enjoyed the trip. He really has.
But the last of the new beetles are off, headed to distant star systems. Grace was settled in at the viewport when they found an anomaly.
